Still waiting for my sapphire; I am also looking for a smaller tsavorite. I'm not as particular about the tsavorite as the sapphire but I do want a vibrant, well-cut stone.

I guess my main question is does this look like a good stone for the price. Could I do better? I like the color but I don't know if the dark areas indicate extinction or not and if so how bad is it.

The price is low because the colour isn't saturated. On a positive note, it looks well cut and should be a sparkler. It does look to sometimes have a few dark areas but it could just be that one picture where it shows. I would not be concerned with treatment and it does not need lab verification.

i think someone enhanced the photo.....but you won't know until you see it. if there is a good return policy, why not check it out.

Thanks Chrono and MoZo,

As a pomt of comparison, can you point me to an example of a well-saturated tsav? Just learning here.

I'm not Chrono or Mozo, but I always loved Yingh's tsavorite. I think its a well saturated stone.

I love this shot, because I think the real nice ones remind me of Christmas green foil, as in this picture. There's almost a metallic green look to them.

I also love Chrono's tsavorite. She just posted new photos of it next to her new minty garnet.

This is the oval that looks very similar in color to the cushion I have from that same vendor.

These are my pics, and it is WAY better in person than these pictures (it holds its own against my mahenge spinels):

At least on mine, the black seems to be obstruction because it pretty much goes away when I'm not sticking my camera right in front of it.

It isn't the "top" tsavorite color, isn't super intensely saturated (though mine is still stunning), but the price is EXCELLENT for what you are getting. Most similar stones I found from PS recommended vendors were a minimum of twice the price for what looked to be about the same quality.

While I love the way Yingh's tsavorite looks, I am sure it is really expensive. :-/ Mine was similar in price to that oval.

I am not at all an expert, but from what I've seen when I was looking for a tsavorite, the price for around .9 cts is typically from $600 - $800, especially for a well cut stone (unless you get them on rare discounts).
So the gals and gents here will correct me, but for a clean stone of that weight, good cut and alright saturation, I believe $380 is a good price?

Thanks TL, distracts, and mimB.

Well with a 30 day no questions asked guarantee, I took the plunge and ordered it. I'd been admiring the green of the tsavorites I've seen around here (and the sparkly cuts) so I must see one for myself. I'll keep you posted.

I believe I recognize it and have been eyeing it as well. I'm not in the market for one, so take this with a grain of salt, but I believe the vendor did say that it has a slight bit of yellow. I can't wait for you to get it in hand and decide for yourself! :appl:

Yep, that's the one, minousbijoux! I must be color-blind because I can't see the hint of yellow in the pics. That's why I had to see the stone in person.

Meanwhile I've been browsing Daniel_M's settings on Etsy for some setting inspiration; what do all of you think of these?

If it is similar to Distracts' tsavorite, it'll look great in yellow gold. Can't wait to read your review.

The third ring you posted is mine - I can tell you it is AWESOME, very comfortable, and gets a ton of compliments (and it was very reasonably priced, and the price in 14k gold is not that much more than the price in Argentium silver, which is what I got). The tsavorite oval is only a smidge smaller than the sapphire that is the center of that stone, so the proportions would be pretty similar. If you want any other pics or anything, let me know. I have taken a bunch but have been too lazy to post them to the thread for that ring (oops, I'm a bad PSer!).

LOL distracts. I didn't even notice the username on that purchase - sure enough it was distracts. Its a beautiful ring. The top ring is FrekeChild's. I really like your color combination but I don't know how the reverse would look (green center stone and blue side stones). I was leaning towards clear sidestones but diamonds may be cost prohibitive for this project. Good to know that our center stones are similar proportions.

Now I'm debating setting this in a pendant. I have some gemcutters looking for the Asscher sapphire and logically since the sapphire is harder, it would fare better in a ring and the tsav would fare better in a pendant. But I'd really like an Asscher pendant and I don't need two pendants (or two rings for that matter).

I do like that first ring you posted...Funny story, but I was originally going to do this setting with my tsavorite! So it gets a thumbs up from me!
