Opinions on yellow diamond

Yes by you guys sharing is how we learn more… so thank you!!!

Thanks for saying that pk888….. I was starting to feel guilty….

Regarding GIA…. In this case the best you’d get is split grades. For the full GIA report ( with specific grading) you’d need to remove the center diamond…. Which would destroy the ring.
I’ll echo what others have said, in general. It’s a heavy platinum ring, so you have good value there. If it’s a natural diamond, even if it’s a light yellow- ( lighter than Fancy light yellow) you did well. Especially if you love the ring.

I’m thinking to get it certified from Gia and see what the real score is- once I receive the ring as the auction just happened yesterday and I have to wait for item to be shipped

anyone here knows the process and how much it would cost? And how long it would take?
Will Gia be the one to take out the diamond and put it back?

I also didn’t realize my username shows up as OP

i think you have to take the diamond before sending to GIA, not sure that could be done without damaging the setting.

you could take it to an appraiser instead who could evaluate it while mounted.

No reason to feel any guilt

the reason I posted and asked for opinion is to gain perspective and insight from people here who knows more… and this discussion is what makes us learn

nothing personal just Sharing of thoughts

I made the purchase being able to substantiate to myself it was a reasonably good deal but wanted to confirm if that was really the case

when I buy my items I usually don’t do it emotionally and buy it out of the desire to get a really good deal

I mean I would buy something if it looked nice but if it’s not a price I can substantiate I won’t even consider buying

Appreciate all the feedback and discussion about this

We’re kind of spoiled here , what with @denverappraiser and @oldminer. Out in the real world, it’s more of a challenge finding a competent appraiser .....especially for a specialized sort of stone like this.

I’ll bring it to my local jeweller who has been working with me for 10+ years and very knowledgeable also

I’ll update here when the ring arrives!!!
From our previous purchases with the auction house, the pics don’t usually show justice and the actual
Item usually looked better

I’m excited and thanks for everyone sharing and engaging in this discussion

I need to seriously polish up on my abbreviation knowledge lol ‍‍

There is a glossary of acronyms and abbrev.
I can't believe no one's hounded you yet for hand pics. Let me be the first.
I am SO taken with your new ring!

It’s a cool ring. It’s a done deal. Don’t mess with it.

It’s standard practice for the major auction houses to get stones like this lab graded first. It eliminates questions just like this and it helps them to get top prices. Remember, auction houses are commission salespeople working for the seller. I hate to use words like ‘impossible’, but the reason they didn’t do it is that pulling and resetting this would be difficult (read expensive). It doesn’t gain you much. If you are not trying to sell it, I wouldn’t mess with GIA and, if you are trying to sell it, there’s a lesson from the auction house who has a lot more experience with this than you. They opted against.

You may be able to learn something from the mounting. Are there any markings on the inside? I see a sizing horseshoe in it, which tends to be an aftermarket add-on and they can cover hallmarks, but sometimes your appraiser can see around them with a microscope. If you can figure out who made it, they may have some records that would be useful for example.

A large platinum ring like the one you have, could easily cost about half of what you paid for the ring to make if you had the diamonds. So yes, in the opinion of this jeweler, you got a steal of a deal. (provided the diamonds are natural, of course.)

I will resist the urge to yank Rockdiamond's chain by telling him that synthetic is a perfectly acceptable word for lab grown diamonds, it just is not a good marketing term...

Wink

Glad that you had posted here, to get more guidance on your ring. I can’t wait to see it on your finger!

How long will it take to get to you?

Actually FTC guidelines prohibit using the term “Synthetic “ in a derogatory manner by sellers of Earth Mined diamonds. So yank away old buddy:)

Quoting JCK online from this thread

“ Now contrary to some assertions, the FTC did not say that sellers could not use the term synthetic, though it did say that term couldn’t be used to imply a competitor’s lab-grown diamond is not an actual diamond. (It offered similar guidance for the terms natural and real. The Guides still caution against lab-grown companies using the terms natural, genuine, and real to describe their products.)”

Please do not take the stone out to have it graded.
Just enjoy it. A nome will not make the color better or worse.
But the chance of chipping while unsetting or resetting and the mangling of the ring are serious risks.

I'm going to echo, please do not remove the stone from the ring.
