Opinions please! Idealscope + Settings

I received from Idealscope images and gemologist's feedback from JA and I'd like PS'ers opinions on IS images and settings. In person, I saw J and K color side by side and really could not tell the difference, even on its side. Perhaps the lighting was dim or something. But neither my bf or I could tell the color difference so I thought I would be comfortable with a "K." Warmth usually doesn't bother me unless it's obviously tinted (on its own).

First, the diamonds.

1) 1.70crt J SI1 $9800; HCA 2.5
I'm happy to say that the gemologist loves diamond 1546607 (1.70crt J SI1) the most because of its bright and has lively light performance. It has great fire, brilliance, and scintillation and performs the strongest of the bunch. It also possesses a true "J" color and the average eye will find it to face eye clean.

2) 1.70crt K VS2 $8000; HCA 1.6
Diamond 1548166 (1.70crt K VS2) is also very bright and is ranked a close second for performance. It faces eye clean and has a true "K" color.

3) 1.50crt J SI1 $7600; HCA 2.4
Diamond 1548168 (1.50crt J SI1) is bright but its performance isn't as impressive as your other diamonds when being compared. Additionally, there is a possibility that you may find an inclusion or two based on how good your ability is to look into diamond.

Not an expert but the first IS looks best for me as it seems to have more red overall.

They can make it without pave (I asked) and it also comes in white gold (if that's what you're looking for). The recently purchased pictures of this ring look really nice too! I don't know how much your other settings are, but JA is not expensive compared to other jewelers and it's often easier to get your ring and setting in the same place.

Thanks, the ones I posted are sort of a Harry Winston knock-off. I looking for something with tiny and delicate prongs. The most similar one they have at JA is this:

And it doesn't sit right with me (compared to the ERD one).

Makes perfect sense. Just a note though, I think the first 2 settings you posted will require you to wear a curved wedding band if you're looking for something that will sit flush with the ring.

Great idealscope on the first stone, and I agree that I would choose a J over a K in this ct weight. I also really like the solitaires that you posted. The ring should have a very nice presence!

ETA have you considered the Vatche caroline? Another very popular choice!

Great point! That's what I would have thought but I was able to try on ring #1 (Brooklyn) at ERD office and it was flush with a regular eternity ring they showed me. At least I didn't notice any strange gaps... but I thought remember them being completely flush.

How are the prongs on Caroline? I originally thought I wanted a classic Tiffany style setting but when I was at ERD, I was surprised to see how bulky it was compared to Brooklyn. It was ERD's version of the Tiffany style, but still... I thought the double claw prongs showcased the diamond a lot more.

Ooh, that's great news then! You might want to check with ERD just to be safe - sometimes the size of the donut varies with the size of the diamond. I like the first 2 settings you posted the best then, if you like claw prongs.

Only you can decide that! Are you going to regret not getting the J if you end up with the K? If not, then get the K. If you want the J, $1800 amortized over 75 years is $0.07 more per day.

I'd probably go with the first J since it has the best idealscope image, and I think you might eventually be glad you went with J. That is assuming it is completely eyeclean. I am not in love with the sqaureish donuts on those ERD settings. I agree with you that a little donut does not cause a big gap and I actually prefer a tiny gap so the two rings don't look glued together like one wide band! I would eliminate the BG setting because it is quite low and someone else here had it and changed it because diamond wedding bands hit those prongs. So I'd look a little more for solitaire settings. Victor Canera has a beautiful basket setting and the Vatche Caroline is beautiful, as Christina mentioned. Mark Morrell's solitaires are beautiful, too.

Actually, the K doesn't bother my eyes at all. I think it's more of a mental thing. Most places I visited don't even carry Ks-- so I feel there's this stigma that K's are too dark to be e-rings while J's are acceptable. Like I mentioned before, I cannot tell the difference between the two colors in person-- nor magnified 10x on the computer screen.

I will go with the K-- and with the difference in money, perhaps put it towards a real Leon Mege setting. No one does more dainty claws than he does

I actually have a Leon setting that is empty that would probably fit that stone as a matter of fact. I haven't listed it for sale but would consider it if you were interested in a gently used Leon solitaire setting. Mine had a 7.6mm stone in it.

That would be perfect because my stone dimensions are 7.61 x 7.64 x 4.76.

Mine has single prongs, but that it not to say that either Leon or Steven could alter them. The amazing thing is that your diamond would be an exact fit. But certainly don't settle for something you don't want! I just saw the diamond size and you mentioned Leon and I thought about having one sitting in a drawer!

Your ring is beautiful diamondseeker, and almost exactly what I want. But my bf doesn't like the idea of second-hand rings, which is too bad because apparently if I want an LM ring now, I have to buy the diamond from him as well.

The search continues I suppose-- I will look into the other designers you suggested, Victor Canera and Mark Morrell. There are sooo many ring styles out there I'm sure I'll find something to suit me!
