Oh, ugh, that absolutely sucks. I remember a similar story from a few years ago, only told from the other guy's point of view: he ordered a ring, got a BETTER ring and figured, "Hey, this is just an exceptionally good looking rock!" He proposed to his GF, and THEN that's when the company let him know that that wasn't his stone, and he'd have to return it. As I recall, he refused, and the company let him (for a difference of, like, 3K or something). As I recall, he got a lot of flack for it.

I agree with all of the above posters - a $300 credit isn't NEARLY enough to make up for their ruining your plans. I'd try to go higher up the ladder, and if they don't provide better service, definitely demand a refund and go to a vendor with better service. What a mess, and so sorry you're having to deal with this ...

wow. that sucks! I do not think that the FI would be willing- after being proposed to with a bigger stone- hand that in for the original smaller stone!

No, but I'd be pretty unwilling to marry someone who would accept someone else's mistake and pass it off as his own, then refuse to be honest when the mistake was revealed.

But not all people hold themselves to that standard.

it's possible the guy (or girl) has no clue at all... I mean, you get the ring, you trust the seller, you propose and then you spend the next week in bed lol Why check your email??

ditto! :naughty:

I took the story to be that the person in question didn't pay the $3000 difference, just refused to return the ring at all and the company ended up just sacrificing it, so he got the bigger diamond for free.

I wouldn't be able to wear it if my fiance did that. It wasn't rightfully his.

I found the thread in question: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/jeweler-set-the-wrong-stone%E2%80%94wants-me-to-return-ring.51267/page-4

hmm, well the story in this thread- retold from memory stated that he got to keep it for a difference of 3K- which I took to mean he paid the 3K to keep it- just read the entire thread (thanks for the link!) and he pretty much refused to return and fought until they let him keep it..... I liked Kenny's quote about morals vs. ethics... and it's not directly quote- but from what i remembered...

morals is what you do when everyone can see...
ethics is what you do when no one can see....

makes you think.

Heh, sorry about the confusion - I did mean that the dealer wound up eating the 3K.

In this situation, if the person who has your stone hasn't proposed yet, I hope they do the right thing and hand it over. If they have ... I sort of think BN is between a rock and a hard place when it comes to *them,* and owes it to *you* to find a comparable stone, or better, to the tune of what Yssie recommended.

well- i hope for your sake that either-

a. your real stone is in the inventory and it's a simple switch....

b. the person that got your stone is honest and willing to make it right- without an issue

c. BN makes it up to you with a comparable stone or a better discount.

Thanks guys...

I asked Blue Nile for a refund on Monday 12/6. Its Saturday the 11th now and I still don't have my money back yet...

I paid with my bank debit card (Visa). Geez... How long does it normally take to refund a Visa?

Would a wire transfer have been faster to get money back?

I have a new diamond and ring picked out from a different vendor, but can't do anything about it until I get my money back. I have to hope no one else buys it. :blackeye:

Unfortunately, large transaction refunds can take longer to post, and usually will not post on the weekends. Assuming you requested the refund on 12/6, they agreed, it would not have posted until 12/7 and may not appear on your statement for some time depending on the processor they use and how that processor batches refunds.

Try calling your bank. When I do a credit card refund from my merchant account, the buyer's bank gets notice immediatley. Most times the buyers bank sits on the money for a few days until they "process" it. uUt if you call them they might speed up the process.

I work for a bank. I would talk to Blue Nile and let them know you may need to get your bank involved because pretty much the transaction was fraudulent. You paid for something that you did not receive, file a fraud claim with your bank and they may give you some type of provisional credit, *possibly* given that it is a large amount.

On another note. I just turned in a beautiful, eyeclean H .90 SI1 to Mark at ERD for a tradeup. so if your other diamond is gone contact them and see if they can pull it for you.

Any news on your refund?

Yeah, I received it yesterday - a week later. They told me 3-4 days.

I purchased a different diamond and ring - a much better deal actually. I will post pics when I get it.

Did you buy at BN again?
If yes, then why the refund?

So exciting can't wait to see you new purchase. I'm glad things worked out for the best :appl:

Glad things worked out for the best! Did this change your proposal plans? I think you said something about that earlier.
