Hey Deb I was married in 1977 as well (June). Just a wedding band at first and then we added a 1/2 carat round diamond in a plain setting at our first anniversary.

my original e-ring was a .65 marquise solitaire. I color, I1 clarity (it had been laser drilled to improve the clarity to SI2) Of course they don''t have to disclose that.

1/3 carat princess solitaire. Dh and I were 18 and 19, too poor for a ring until 3 years into the marriage. :D

mine was a round 1.23c G VS1.

Engaged in July, 1.6ct D VS2.

Mine was a 0.56 ct marquise set on a princess cut diamond band. Here''s what it looks like....

I find it really intreasting the additional information people are posting, so many have also put down color and clarity even though the question does not mention those.

Sundial, I am afraid that on our first anniversary we were still very far from being able to afford a 1/2 carat ring! In my family, as I grew up in the 1950s, everyone who had a diamond at all (my mother didn''t) had a 1/4 carat or 1/3 carat. At one year I wasn''t thinking of a diamond that size, either!

Deb :-)

I adore my original ering. It was a family stone and will be passed down to our son when the time comes. Many of my friends that have gotten upgrades have put their original stones into pendants. I am not loving that idea. Somehow, I want that ring intact, just as my husband gave it to me and proposed.

It may not have been big diamonds, but I really like your original wedding ring Deb. Very unique and pretty!

Not engaged yet, but the ring is done and hiding somewhere in the house.....

1.64ct I VS1, Ideal H&A, size 5.5

I''m still wearing my original E-ring. The stone has not been graded or appraised. It''s approx .55 and one of the better clarity grades. it''s a lot cleaner and more glittery than most of what I see in the local jeweler''s cases. It looks plenty big and sparkly to me and is in a wonderful vintage setting so I doubt I will ever be in the market for another. I really doubt I will ever be in the position to buy a stone that is it''s peer.

.16 oval. It''s the third from the right on the top row.
