I guess my priorities have changed since becoming a mom.....my single girlfriends are paying mega bucks on clothes etc. to make them beautiful, and I just can''t justify spending that kind of money anymore. So, here''s my poll to figure out if I''m just cheap or everyone''s frugal like me (saving up their money for diamonds :).

1) for a pair of jeans
2) for a pair of shoes
3) for a nice going-out outfit
4) for a nice dinner
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc)
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example)
7) for a pair of sunglasses
8) for undergarments
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be)
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit

Here are my answers:

1) for a pair of jeans :$60
2) for a pair of shoes: $80

10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit: $60

i think i''m like your friends.

1) for a pair of jeans: $175

31.gif
)
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be): No limit?
9.gif

10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit: $100

This is tough to answer because it really depends. aka I have spent $175 on jeans but I prefer to get the same brand on eBay for $75. But I WILL spend alot on the right pair of jeans if I have to. Same with things like shoes, sunglasses etc. If I can find it on eBay I will always get it for cheaper. But I have paid retail in the past. However NO WAY would I pay all of the above costs all at once, aka I don''t go shopping and buy a $175 pair of jeans, $150 pair of shoes, $200 on an outfit, $200 for sunglasses etc. It''s more like I will treat myself to the jeans or something every few months and buy more ''reasonable'' things in the other categories. Normally I don''t spend the MAX on anything, but that''s what I have paid in the past or would pay for something if it was THE swimsuit or THE pair of jeans etc.

That said, it''s just us, no kids...though I do spend about $100 each month on food and treats for Portia.

lol just for the heck of it...

1) for a pair of jeans $24.99
2) for a pair of shoes $100 every 3 years
3) for a nice going-out outfit $35 jeans and new t-shirt
4) for a nice dinner $12 per person with tip
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) $0.00 free is kewl
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) skeeter spray count? $3.99
7) for a pair of sunglasses $10
8) for undergarments $9.99 for a 3 pack
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be)$20 unless its a new gun or ammo
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit$0 old pair of jeans work fine

I''m trying to be frugal, but these jeans are calling my name, hence I started this thread. I haven''t splurged on clothing in ages!

They are $179.

1) for a pair of jeans $175

2) for a pair of shoes $300

3) for a nice going-out outfit $300

4) for a nice dinner $ 250

5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) The most I''ve spent is $410 including tip. I got a rainbow perm, highlights, coating and a haircut - I''m kinda in a funk right now so I felt like I needed a change. Normally I do NOTHING with my hair and cut it 2-3 times a year for $60.

6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) $60

7) for a pair of sunglasses $250

8) for undergarments $40

9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be) biggest splurge $1800

They are $179.
$179???
Where is the other 7 pair that should go with it for that price?
I guess I just will never get spending that kind of money on a pair of pants.
Id make my own first.
Guess im just cheap.

I splurge on cetain things. Like a really nice pair of sunglasses $200. I''m not into shoes, but will spend a lot on a handbag. A nice dinner out $200. Jeans, $125. Bathingsuit $150. Makeup $25 Hair $125 but that''s a single process , haircut and blow out.

hee hee... this does seem a little dangerous...

1) for a pair of jeans $200
2) for a pair of shoes $100
3) for a nice going-out outfit $200
4) for a nice dinner For two? MAYBE $200
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) $100 and this would be like once every couple years
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) $15
7) for a pair of sunglasses $100
8) for undergarments $15
9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be)
11.gif

10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit $70

1) for a pair of jeans: $50-$100. So far I haven''t paid more than 60 bucks for any pair of jeans.
2) for a pair of shoes: Depends on the shoe type. I have paid $130 for running shoes before. I am cheap on most shoes other than running and steel toed boots, those I pay out the nose for.
3) for a nice going-out outfit: Since my "nice" outfits are the same as my normal outfits....whatever the jeans cost and the $14 (max) Old Navy Perfect Fit tshirt. :)
4) for a nice dinner: $120
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc): I pay about $100 a month on color alone, I would pay whatever it took to get what I wanted.
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example): The most expensive makeup item I own is Cle De Peau concealer and I barely use it. So, no more than that probably.
7) for a pair of sunglasses: don''t wear em but I generally buy from Target.
8) for undergarments: $10 for undies, in a multipack, and $70 per bra from Nordies. Only bras I can find in my ginormous size.
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be): My gift is my hair and a trip to target. So whatever that bill ends up being :)
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit: HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA! Work out?! HAHAHAHAHAH!
My swimsuit for the honeymoon cost $2.98 at walmart.

You must have been reading my bank statements - those figures are exactly what I''d pay for all of those things excpet I''d try and get extra money off when the sales came round too!

I''ve been a mother for 20 years and old habits die very hard.

I must admit though that all that frugality goes out the window when it comes to buying jewellery of any description.

I tend to spend alot on myself, but I don''t have any kids right now, so that is how I justify it!! with the shoes, I LOVE shoes and would actually probably spend more if I had the cash! I love clothes and fashion, so I tend to spend alot on those items. With my hair, I do my own color (never found a good colorist, I''m the best one I know!) and get my hair trimmed once every 5 weeks or so, so $60 is even pushing it to me. I don''t care for designer sunglasses, I always lose ''em anyway. Undergarments I like alot, so I spend some money. that''s about it.....

Ooooo, fun thread! My priorities have definitely shifted since becoming a mom.

1) for a pair of jeans - $60

9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be) - $100
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit - $120

) for a pair of jeans ... no limit if they look good. Hence, I have none
2) for a pair of shoes ... $200
3) for a nice going-out outfit ... Hmm usually black pants which are up to $200 and probably top, so maybe $250.00...but I'll spend more for special ocns and for suits and good pieces
4) for a nice dinner... Hubby pays LOL
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) ... Dunno. I pay $18 for my bangs and trim at a lady's house Would pay $400 for straightening...I have a lose curl at the tips of my hair that I HATE
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) ... have no clue...use the same stuff all the time $50-75?

10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit Work outfit...no much..I work with a-holes and old people...Swimsuit? $200+

Ok, I feel like I''ve always had a really good balance. I''ve never needed only the expensive stuff, and my wardrobe is mixed with budget to more higher end items. I feel like shopping smartly makes a difference too, like not going last minute for a new dress but if I know something is coming up I keep my eyes open. One time I fell in love with a dress at bcbg for $280, and then I went to Bloomingdales I found it marked down to $60! They''re notorious for practically giving away clothes though. So even though there are max. amts that I''d pay, and have paid. I''m only 22, no kids, not married, my parents are still a significant source of financial support, once they cut that off, maybe I''ll be singing a different tune
3.gif

1) for a pair of jeans $200
2) for a pair of shoes $100 or under for every day shoes, but for special occasions or boots I''m ok spending more
3) for a nice going-out outfit $300
4) for a nice dinner $200-300ish, for a couple, we''re too young and broke to really afford any more!
5) for a new hair do I don''t color my hair, my hair cuts are only $50
6) for a cosmetic item $15-40, depending on what it is, but I try not to spend too much
7) for a pair of sunglasses $40 max! sunglasses never last long under my care! so its pointless spending a lot!
8) for undergarments $60ish for a set? I don''t really pay attention to that one
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself my upcoming gift to myself is $3000, but sometimes it can just be treating myself to a new lipgloss for $15 and be just as happy!
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit I hate spending a lot on those, I''m not at the beach enough to justify spending a lot, and my work out stuff...almost everythign is adidas and the most expensive are probably the pants I like and they''re around $50, everythingelse is under that amt though. Shoes are more expensiveBut, Jaysonsmom, get yourself those jeans!! Finding pants that fit can be HARD!! I don''t midn spending a lot on a pair of jeans when I can mix and match it with a tshirt or heels and a cute shirt to go out in, because jeans are sooo crutial to me feeling good about my outfit. I don''t care if it sounds silly, but the right fit can make a world of difference. There is something to be said for being frugal, but you should treat yourself every now and then too! They''re cute!! Get theeeem!!

Interesting thread. Do you mean the most that we have ever spent or the most we would spend on any given day? I ask because there are those one time deals where one just splurges without any thought to money, like when they are on vacation, honeymoon, etc. and then there are those everyday occasions.

If you mean just everyday, out of the blue spending, then this is what I would normally spend.
For those "I don''t know what the hell got into me/us", then anything goes.

1-jeans-$180
2- shoes-$150/ $200 for boots (the most I''ve ever spent was $450 for Gucci shoes)
3-going out outfit-$200
4-dinner-$100 per person
5-hair- $120-$150
6- makeup item-$36+tax (chanel stuff and touche eclat)
7-sunglasses- $300
8-underwear- I buy Body by Victoria- so I would guess anywhere between $24 to $36 for a bra(?)
9-gift for self- priceless
10-swimsuit/workout outfit- these I usually get on sale- $50

What the hell, just get the jeans!!!!!
I bought a pair of Seven maternity jeans from a pea in a pod for $175 when I was about 5 months pregnant. That was one of my" what the hell got into me" days.
I wound up buying a second pair on ebay for half the price. I have to say though, the one''s from ebay look like someone just cut the top and added a spandex band to it, while the ones from pea in a pod look really put together and well tailored.
Both will be sold on ebay once I am in prepregancy form!

9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be)..Dunno..but probably not much. I guess the cosmetic splurge would count here.
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit..."$45.00" Tommy Girl Tankini...shhhhhhh, don't tell anyone that it's almost six years old

I love variety in clothing, and I keep thinking about how many great pairs of different jeans I coud get for the price of ONE pair of 7''s. I have the body type that fits well in junior''s department (read: no hips), and there''s a ton of cute jeans I could buy for $29.99. I went to try on some 7''s and to be honest they didn''t look better than some of my other jeans. I''m just beng sucked into this brand hype because all my girlfriends swear that 7''s are THE BEST JEANS, they are comfortable and make you look great......we''ll see, maybe I''ll reward myself with them when I lose my last 8 pregnancy lbs.

jeans - $100.00
shoes - $200.00 (boots, more$)
going-out - $100.00 (I can find the best sales)
nice dinner- $100.00 per person
new hair do $180.00
cosmetic $160.00
sunglasses $180.00 (last pair in Jan.)
undergarments $40.00
gift to me $ no limit
swimsuit $200.00 (last one this past Jan. for Hawaii)

1) for a pair of jeans $30

5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) $105 (with tip) every 6-8 weeks
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) $10
7) for a pair of sunglasses $50
8) for undergarments $10 - 40 depending on what it is!
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be) I so rarely do this, so I have no idea!!
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit $100 for a two-piece swimsuit...I always have to have them custom made due to my dimensions!

1) for a pair of jeans- For really good ones, maybe $80

2) for a pair of shoes - $60

3) for a nice going-out outfit - $150

4) for a nice dinner - $200

5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) - don''t do this much.. but I''d splurge and spend like $80 or so once in awhile..

6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example)- again don''t buy much of this.. I''d say $30

7) for a pair of sunglasses - $10

8) for undergarments - I buy good bras.. thats all there is to it. I''d spend up to $70 if it was a fantastic bra.

9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be) - This is kind of vague. I bought myself a $130 ring last year. So thats probably the limit for a single item. Although I''ve considered buying a mini ipod for $200

10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit- I would splurge and spend like $60 on a swimsuit occasionally, but on average its more like $30

Probably the most expensive thing we''ll spend money on is the nice dinner...we''ve probably had a few on our anniversaries, b-days, etc that were about $150. For everything else on the list, inclusive, $100-200 would probably cover it....in total for the past 5 years at least! Probably for both her and for me!!!!

I guess we just don''t spend money on those things......

But throw Vacations on the list and we''re talking a whole different story!

) for a pair of jeans $80
2) for a pair of shoes $150

10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit $125

Great questions!

1) for a pair of jeans $175
2) for a pair of shoes $150 - 200
3) for a nice going-out outfit $200-250
4) for a nice dinner $300
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) $100
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) $25
7) for a pair of sunglasses $50
8) for undergarments $2.49 (TJ Maxx!!)
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be) $???
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit $25 (again TJ Maxx or Victoria''s Secret catalog)
Jaysonsmom, go for the Sevens. They are flattering on every size butt. I happen to spend a lot on jeans because I wear them all the time. I justify the cost by using my method of "per wear". For the number of times I wear the jeans, I can easily make them seem worth the price I pay! PER WEAR--I live by it!!!!

1) for a pair of jeans $160--with price per wear, it is worth it!
2) for a pair of shoes $100+, but I usually wear $20 flip-flops
3) for a nice going-out outfit $50 for a nice top to wear with jeans, or $200 for a dress
4) for a nice dinner- $150 (for 2, including tip)
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) $60
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) I don''t wear much make-up, but I''ll pay $15 for my favorite Clinique eyeliner
7) for a pair of sunglasses "free" from eye doctor or $10 at Target--I''ve lost 3 pairs this summer!
8) for undergarments $50
9) for a ''gift'' to yourself (whatever it may be) depends on how bad a day I''ve had

Ehh...if you didn''t love the jeans, go back to something you love! Or if you want a pair of sevens, wait til a style comes out that you really like. 175 is not what I''d spend on a pair of jeans I was just "ehhhh" about, when I spend that much, its on a pair I LOVE! (or can go to work in) I have a range, all of mine aren''t that expensive, but I wear a pair of my sevens or citizens when I want them to look a little nicer, just because those cuts do look nicer on ME, which it totally depends on your body type, which is what you have to buy for. If I could buy jeans that I felt fabulous in for $50, I would. My body has changed and the brands I loved 5 or 6 years ago no longer fit me the same way. I guess I just wouldnt spend the money if I wasn''t thrilled with them, so don''t do it
3.gif
(And I wish my bf would see that I''m trying to talk someone out of an expensive purchase instead of trying to talk them into one

re jeans honestly i have found that the cheaper styles just don''t work for alot of body types...especially mine!

i used to buy express jeans and other styles when i was younger but ever since trying Seven and AG and all the expensive jeans that are out there, I find that I really like them better and then I wear them more and therefore as someone noted, the per wear amortizes out the expensive costs. I live in jeans during the winter, I have like 8-10 pairs that I wear all the time..my fave is AG because Sevens seem to be made more for stick-like girls than girls with too many curves..but I think the latest Joe Jeans or something is one that my curvy friend raves about so I think I have to try them out. Also she really likes Paper Denim and Cloth.

because I dislike spending the $150-175 on jeans for each pair, I usually go into the stores, try on various styles, find out what fits and what doesn''t, then try to find the style number (and hopefully wash style) on eBay for less. I have managed to do this with a few pairs and got them for $75 instead of the retail price, brand new just fall season instead of spring or whatever. Usually their wash styles change but not necessarily the style of the jean from season to season.

so i say if you want the expensive pair and it looks fab on you, get them! if you will wear them alot, it makes sense IMO!
