That's what the sales guy at Kay's told me. My mom wants to reset her ring into an x prong setting, there were Tolkowsky diamonds in such settings at Kay's, I asked about whether the settings were sold separately, and the guy said yeeees, but good luck getting another jeweler to set my moms diamond in it for copyright reasons.
Confused, I said, isn't this just an x prong? Not exactly uncommon. He said the name was on it and other jewelers would feel like they were passing off the outside diamond as a Tolkowsky. I didn't say anything. After all, Cartier and Tiffany don't sell their settings separately, though both are common designs. Is this correct?
