I regret trading my oval however because it was I color I would be happy to get a new oval with a little better color. I have been searching local stores and I have to say with my poor decisions I am afraid to trust anyone at any local stores. I would appreciate any advice on looking for an oval.
Thanks

What is your budget? What size and clarity are you hoping for along with I or better color?

Good Old Gold is often recommended as a wonderful option for sourcing ovals. Basically, you give them your budget and priorities and they find you a great performer. Ovals are extremely hard to judge by the numbers only, so it's extra important to work with a trusted vendor who can be your (expert) eyes.

I also love watching the ovals on James Allen spin round and round. Watching their video might help you determine other factors that may be important to you - length/width ratio, table size and crown height, etc. and you'll definitely want a minimal bow-tie effect, which I'm sure you already know.

I LOVE beautiful ovals so I can't wait to see what you get!

I was watching the ovals at JA spin around but then I realized that I have no clue what I should be looking for. I have a 1.5 ct round that I would like to trade. Since I can't trade it from the place I bought it I am very uneasy with going to a local store, only because I feel I can't trust them. I have an email in to Jon at GOG, and a few other vendors.
All I really know is I wasn't happy with my I color oval so the color is important. Other than that I don't have a clue what I want or what I should be looking for. So you are right, I need someone I can trust.
The local stores around here are Jared and Dunkins Diamonds. I have looked online at both and like I said, I'm clueless.

I would like to just buy this. Then I could be done.

OMG. I die. :cheeky: ::)

That's a stunning setting. I love coloured French Cut halos, have you ever considered a Antique oval before? It would go really well with that setting. They look like chunky cut ovals with a big culet in the centre. I just looked at some Art Deco Ovals on Israel Rose and they look like the one in your pic, but I have seen really amazing looking old cut ones as well.... Are you after a modern cut one specifically?

Love it. It's a gorgeous setting!

Just because I have one oval does not make me an expert... but if warmth bothers you, I definitely think you should aim for the high color grades because I think ovals tend to show color more than rounds. Mine is a J and I find the warmth matches the vintagy style of my setting... but that's very personal and some people are more sensitive to color than others.

There are some proportions in an oval that you can look out for... but ideally is for you to see it....because some can be cut shallow and show great finger coverage but still sparkle like mad! I took a chance and chose mine by just seeing a flat picture and numbers but I was lucky and I love mine! MUCH better than my previous radiant! I get lost looking inside my oval...I get dizzy! Just too sparkly!

If you can work with Jon at GOG, that would be ideal because he seems to have lots of experience and I would trust his judgement on a nice oval.

The setting you pictured is really really nice. I recommend going with what you originally wanted... bezel halo and plain shank.... I often tell people that many times, your original idea/choice is the best one!

I am going to hold off on an ova for nowl. When I went today I was looking at the Hearts on Fire diamonds and settings, and I have to admit they are really pretty. I was surprised but I was looking at a .78 Dream cut diamond (which is a Hearts on Fire Princess type cut) with a halo that was actually a nice size. So maybe I need to rethink the size of diamond I will need along with a halo.

As for my RB I have decided to sell it. After talking to my husband this is the best thing to do.

Hopefully later I will know what I want. Thanks for all of your help. :wavey:

luvsdmb: I followed your previous thread and now this one.. please take your time and really go with cut and optics performance as a priority! It seems like that's what's missing in making your heart pitter patter.

I also have this weird… never-satisfied-feeling with my diamonds. I seem to always want something else, and my old stuff only piques my interest for a very short-lived time. I find that hiding rings for a while til you really crave seeing it again really helps. Also, a good bath always helps

Best of luck to you! I hope you do end up being extremely elated over a diamond one day <3
