Oval Diamond, Thoughts on this one?

Hi all,

Been looking for awhile (12k budget diamond alone) but without the 'cut' grading, I've had some trouble finding suitable percentages. Found this one, wondering what people's thoughts were:
$12k - 1.46c, F, VVS1
8.46 x 6.40 x 4.14 mm, L/R 1.32
Depth 64.8%, Table 54%
Polish - Ex, Sym - Ex, Fluor - None

My concern was the table and depth not being close to the 60/60 diamond, maybe large bowtie. Going to see it in person in the next few days, but appreciate your thoughts! Thanks!!

Most* ovals are cut deeper than 60%. When we refer to a 60/60 diamond we(pricescope) are usually referring to round cuts.

Unfortunately, numbers tell nothing about fancy cut stones. We'll need pictures/asets/videos to have any idea if its a decent stone with
minimal mush and no bow-tie.

Ask for pictures and post them for comments.

That second and third picture are not the same stone as the first (real) picture. I think they must just be generic oval images.

I see no reason to eliminate the stone you have picked. When you go to see it in person look at it in different lighting. Look for bright facets
that stretch down towards the pointed ends.

I've been looking at BN and JA, but my local jeweler is my preferred store. their website has these videos posted, I assume they are real videos and not stock images if you could check them out.

To be honest, its really hard for me to tell anything from those videos. They dont look like they have black bow-ties but beyond that I cant really
tell much. All I can tell you is that when you go to see the stones, try to find stones that
- have minimal mushy areas
- have nice, crisp, sharp facets that flash on/off
- have nice feather from the center facets to the facets out towards the end
- have facets that come into sharp focus as the stone turns

For example this stone has too much musy-ness for me...here is the link to it. Even as the stone turns those facets in the black area dont come into
focus very well.

The other thing you might want to try to figure out is what flavor of oval you like. You can look at the GIA reports and see the number/type of mains
a stone has (if its over a carat) by looking at the diagram of the backside. There are good and bad cuts of each type but you may have a general
preference of one type over another.

I just saw the first stone in person and using your tips, looked like there were less dead spots and was more crisp than others they showed (except those way out of my budget). Leaning towards this, but just found enchanteddiamonds has a video and aset, hoping someone with more knowledge on aset's (i have zero) could help me potentially pull the trigger on this since the price/size is perfect. Thanks!!

The aset is "typical" for an oval. Asets for oval are hardly ever "nice". The videos where the stone is moving really give you more info.
Are you buying from a local jeweler? How many stones did they have to show you in your budget? Can they bring in any more stones
for you to look at just to enforce your choice? What is your budget/color/clarity specs? We can perhaps point out some more stones in
your budget that maybe your jeweler might be able to bring in.

The fine round diamonds look mostly red ASET with some blue-black (the arrow pattern) & a few green dots. In theory, more red than green is nice to see in any other shape; dark patterns are a signature of some cut models but not others (e.g. a brilliant oval nay have it, a 'modified' brilliant oval - not). White marks areas if diamond through which light passes without being reflected at all - white is not wanted.

I cannot remember when I last saw an oval with a mostly RED ASET.

Then again, the off-putting ASET from ED, says that the diamond is slightly brighter than a Rose Cut - which makes no sense to me.

Sum: if you still like ovals compared to fine rounds (say, AGS000 or HCA<2), the ASET does not matter.
