i want a setting with side stones for my 1.01 oval...any ideas? I was opting for a larger stone but think I am going to just keep what I have and "add" to it.

Definitely half moon sides!!! Ovals with half moon sides is probably one of my fave 3-stone combos!

ditto. if I had an oval, that''s how I''d set it, no question...

pears would be nice too... of even marquise if you do small ones just to accent a thin band :)

Here''s Deb''s (AGBF) tanzanite oval with pears...just gorgeous!!

I love pears with an oval and half moons. Either would be lovely. Or you could do smaller ovals... My friend has a 3 stone oval ring and it's a gorgeous look.

I PUFFY heart love the oval with half moons. Yum!

Scintillating...

I think adding sidestones is a great idea, all of these examples make the diamond look huge! I have another couple of ideas, but currently they are set with rounds so you will have to envision what they would look like with an oval. The first one is basically the pear sidestones but with halos, it''s a different look but it would give you substantial finger coverage. The pic is from the show me the rings folder, but I''m not sure whose it is.

Here''s another idea that would still make your ring look bigger, but it''s a more timeless and classic design. Again it''s set with a round, but I think it would look awesome with an oval. I''m diggin all of these setting ideas, beautiful!

I absolutely love half moons! now, what size to get? As I said earlier, the oval is a 1.01. What size would go best with that?

I guess it depends what look you want. I think 2 that are .50 each would look great, or you could go smaller, say .30 each. That way they center stone will really pop.

I think I''d go around 1/3 of a carat on the sides...I love half moons with ovals!

I absolutely love ovals with half moons. I really wanted to have a right hand ring made just like mydreamring''s. I think the half moons should be around .25 carats each, so that they don''t overpower your center stone. I think her ring had 0.55 carat half moons but her center stone is 1.5 carats. For a one carat center stone I would go smaller.

that one is gorgeous!!!!!!!

ok, one more question..well 2.

1) would cresent stones look better than half moons? My dh found the copy below from some site:

Crescent - The crescent cut diamonds are typically used for side stones and are similar to the half moon shape except they have a curved inner side rather than the half moon''s straight side. Crescent cut diamonds look great with curved center stones like the oval, marquise and cushion cuts.

Half Moon
The half moon diamonds are used mainly for side stones and have the profile of half a round or half an oval diamond. They look great with rectangular center stones such as princess, radiant or emerald because they have one straight side. Because of the rounded edge, half moon diamonds also work well with ovals shaped stones.

2) where can I find these to begin with? Is there a reputable online source that would carry such small diamonds as my side stones?

Thanks all! I am glad to have found this site! I value each and every comment!!!!

I would have the person making your setting source the sidestones for you. They will have a much easier time finding a matching pair.

Most of the online merchants can source matching sidestones for you.
