Hey guys, here's a lil back drop... I have no e- ring but I'm already married. It will be a year in January. haha I know. My SO is in the military and I'm extremely picky and he/I knew that I needed more time than the military would allow to design something I love. So here I am a year since my wedding but I have not been "engaged" a little backwards I know. Well whats the hold up, you wonder? Well as soon as I think I know what I want I get nervous. I've been on every blog and website gathering information but even after 6 months of on/off research I feel like each day I learn something new or a new question arises. I've yet to find a ring that is similar to what I want so I don't really have anything to go off of. I've been to about 15 jewelers and I've been quoted from $12,000 to $5,000. My budget is $7,000 . So I'm hoping that I can describe what I want to one of you PS veterans and you can help me out? Help me put my idea into "diamond" jargon or maybe even tell me that what I'm asking for is off the wall. ha

I want a 1 ct (or so) pear shape halo but I want the halo to be in yellow gold with yellow diamonds. I want it to be micro pave. I want a split shank micro pave band. I just recently learned from a post that I should request 20 degree tilt? since I want as little metal to show as possible & I love the rounded look.

My latest fear is that the jeweler that I choose won't be able to do the micropave well enough & i'll lose diamonds. I'm a RN so I wash my hands ALL the time and I don't want to feel the need to look at my ring after each wash ha. I'll post a couple pictures of my "inspiration". ANY suggestions at all would be awesome! Thank you Thank You

this is how I want my halo to look. And I love how the whole ring has a rounded look to it. Is that a different type of micropave?

I like the way that this ring is kind of sitting on a stacked halo.

and I like this split shank

Seems like a good fit for Diamonds by Lauren. http://rockdiamond.com/

But I think you should just wear a plain band to work.

Well, I think you've come to the right place!! I'm sure lots of people will chime in. There are some tried and true pave vendors people here use. While pave might seem a little impractical with your profession, I musst say that I wear a pave RHR and have kids/dog/cat etc and therefore wash constantly and have never lost a stone in 5+ years. Best of luck and stayed tuned for the experts to chime in........

I have to agree with JulieN that it might be better to wear a plain band to work. With your line of profession, you are risking losing pave (no matter how well made), the ring is more exposed to being knocked around and if you wear gloves often, it might rip holes in them.

Ditto both of these things. Since you work doing a lot of stuff with your hands, especially germy stuff and a lot of glove on/glove off, it's better to save the ring for not-work times. Re: OVERWHELMED & OVERDUE! Help w/ Custom Pear Halo

Yes Diamonds by Lauren does some spectacular yellow diamond halos! So does Leon Mege. Good luck!

that seems totally doable and i agree with the others diamonds by lauren is your best bet. I mean look at this similar one, its 12k and the pear is 2 ct! i would totally contact them. Also I would tell them the size of the pear you want not the ct weight. My pear is a 5.5x8.5 and is only .9 ct, and different shape pears hide there ct weight different places (IE fat pears vs skinny ones or the classic shape)

I think with your budget and the type of ring you are looking for Diamonds by Lauren may be a good fit for you. Here is a really lovely split shank double halo ring they recently made for someone here. They could easily make this for a pear with a single halo w/ yellow diamonds instead of white ones in the halo. This just gives you an idea of their work.

Thank you guys so much for the quick reply! I think maybe you guys are right about me wearing a simple band to work. I think I would die if I lost a stone!

I've seen some of the work by Diamonds by Lauren and I agree she has some GORGEOUS pieces. But I didn't know she does custom pieces. I guess I need to do a little more research =) .

I'm definitely going to contact them, it seems like they are my best bet. But how do I know what size to get?

Hey! and Welcome!
I had the pleasure of meeting David and trying on some AMAZING rings when I was in NYC at the end of Oct/first of Nov. I tried this ring on - TDF! it is not exactly as you have described, but it was STUNNING! http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/pink-diamond-ring-36ct-fancy-brownish-pink-pear-shape-gia-double-halo-ring-r4678 A pink diamond is a pretty rare thing in most circles and it is priced at $7500!

I've attached a pic of it on my chunky/chubby/squishy size 8 RH, so picture this in the proper size on a lovely thinner finger --- it would be AWESOME!!

I totally agree its worth the call to David and just chat about your ideas/his ideas/what's "do-able" etc. I think according to the web, he starts in the afternoon and will be there till 8pm EST. The quality of the finished rings was incredible - I was REALLY impressed! Say hi from Enerchi! lol Good luck!

i would do a couple things. One i would scroll through this thread, two I would go to jamesallen.com and look at there pears. see what shape you like. go in and look at the dimensions of the stone, like length and width. Pears arent like rounds unfortunately ( and fortunately! ) because they all look different. so see what type of shape you like and go based of the largest FACE UP you can find in the shape you like.

I cannot wait to see it when its done !!:wavey:

hopefully they can do one like this with one halo, so it would probably be between 3 and 4 k, leaving around 3k for the pear
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/semi-mount-hand-forged-split-shank-double-halo

Which will probably get you about a .9 ct H or better with SI1 or better clarity (which would be what you'd be searching for anyway in terms of clarity and color

ETA" shoot i do love that pink pear from them, if you would be a little flexible on your vision :D

HI:

Have you seen and tried on a ring, in real life, that you love? Pictures and the real thing...can be vastly different....

BTW, I also would not recommend wearing this style of ring to work.

cheers--Sharon

I wouldn't suggest pave on the band at all.. just have the halo and a simple band without pave. I am also an RN and I have a halo as well but with a plain band instead of having pave all around the band. Plus, with all that pave, imagine what germs and gunk is hiding in it if you were to have a diamond encrusted ring! Plus, I didn't realize how hard I am with my rings until I saw all the patina forming on my ring.

I spoke to David last night and he is amazing just as I was told. We came up with some excellent ideas and I'm looking forward to possible working with him. I told my SO and he said he would feel more comfortable if he talked to David himself  . I will definitely take heed to everyones suggestions. I knew Pricescope was the place to come! You guys are all amazing! And to answer the question if I've tried any on in real life... Yup! I haven't found a pear halo with a split band but I've tried on lots. I originally wanted a simple round halo but after trying on a pear shape I fell in love! haha.
