So...I wasn't sure if I had actually bought this or not since I sent payment last week and then never heard back, but it just arrived so I guess I did! Heh...

Per Dana at mastercutgems, it's a pastel, padaradscha-like color with a recut pavilion. 1.16ct, 7x 5.6mm.

Here are his photos, which are really quite accurate, the stone is more vivid than I am able to capture on my camera. His might be a tad more saturated than I see IRL.

And some of mine.

The cut isn't quite what I'm used to since it's a recut native, with just the pavilion redone. So the crown is much lower than the other stones I have. But the color is so pretty!

I took some photos of it with another peachy spinel I had bought from gem earth awhile ago.

That's gorgeous!

Some photos with Barry's imperial garnet. It's much sleepier in comparison to the bright, splintery sparkliness of Barry's stone. But again, the color is yummy! It definitely has that mahenge glow.

Is this a keeper? I don't have issues with a non-precision cut stone but I usually shy away from flat topped stones. What do you feel about the colour? It appears much less orangey than Dana's pictures. Looks nicer than the Gems Earth spinel though.

Sorry for the poor quality of photos, I literally JUST got it and now I have to leave! I'll try to do better later. :)

I'd say the color is somewhere between my photo and his. My camera tends to wash out the orange pop it has. Though it's definitely more pink than orange. Also, under indoor lighting its much more orange and looks like e vendor photos. It reminds me of a strawberry skittle.

Yeah. The flat top bugs me a bit too, but the color seems quite unique for a spinel. So I most likely will keep it as a collector stone without setting it... I'm a little on the fence to be honest so honest opinions welcome!

The colour is certainly interesting and different. I recall you liking silky stones so that's a plus in your favour. Perhaps with the stone being silky, being flat topped will not matter much since the reason for the high crown is to bring out more sparkles. Probably is a good stone just for keeps.

Certainly if I ever come across a spinel of similar color but with a high crown, I can always sell this one. I'd hate to let it go and then pine for the color.

I don't always like the silky look, it depends on the stone. But I think it works well in this one. It's hard to explain, but it's such a soft color yet it really does pop and glow, and makes up the lack of sparkle with the depth and warmth of color.

I love it! I saw it the other day and its gorgeous! I'm glad you got it. More pics please!

Haha, you just say that cause you know if I sell it, you'd get spinel dibs!

I took some pics with my phone in the mall, it's more orangey indoors. I"m still having a hard time capturing that "pop" that mahenges have.

It's sharing a room with a 1.2 ct, 6.2mm imperial garnet from Barry. It has teeny little bubble inclusions mostly located at one spot near the bottom of the gem, but it's refracted all over the place and it makes it look like champagne which just tickles me. And it glitters and gleams in the way that Barry's garnets do.

LOVE the indoor shots!

Thanks Davi, the indoor ones are much closer to the real color and saturation level. Apparently my phone takes more honest photos than my camera, maybe I need to adjust some settings, it's beyond me, lol.

Who, me? :naughty:

I think it is lovely,
but then it reminds me of an imperial garnet I, um, recently acquired...
Do you find yourself, as I do me, sometimes buying the same stone over and over?
Not that that's a bad thing,
actually it's a good thing, leaves one with matched sets!

I do tend to buy a lot of spinels and garnets..

I hear you on this, VL! I have an Umba sapphire, an imperial garnet, and a spinel that are all quite similar, in slightly graduating sizes. Two of these are currently listed, because I thought I really don't need all three, but if they don't sell, I'm thinking some sort of pendant. :)

I seriously considered this spinel, MTG - it looks like a lovely colour!

I think I've owned at least 4 different malaya garnets just from Barry over the last year... The supernova one is staying with me for keeps though. :)

The spinel has this really juicy, tropical look to it...this makes me sound crazy, but I constantly have the compulsion to eat it. It looks like a glowing skittle!

Oh very pretty! I think it should be set despite the flatter crown.

I think I'm in the minority here in thinking that it seemed better in Dana's photos. The silk may make it glow some, but next to Barry's, it kind of looks dull. Take this with a grain of salt, though, because flat crowns are the kiss of death to me, since they minimize sparkle.

Congrats on your new stone. I do not prefer silky stones as I am blind to the glow they produce. But I am glad you can appreciate that quality in your gem. I also love a splash of orange in a spinel as they can look like glowing embers.

I think it is an interesting stone, with an unusual color, and with a proper set, it will look great. Congratulations!

Thanks! I decided to keep it on basis of color, and it does glow beautifully, especially in low lighting. Might be awhile before I set it though seeing how many RHR I already have!

That is gorgeous! I love it!
