I would go to Donovan''s across from University Town Centre (a mall) for a good steak. As for jewelry, San Diego Lady has some good suggestions. University Town Centre really only has a Charles Knoll that is worth mentioning.

I was going to suggest what SD lady suggested. La Lolla has it all, jewelry, clothes, and a beautiful beach in the backround. If Jacks if open, that would be a great place to try for lunch.

Fashion Valley is the place to go if you want the "mall" experence. Several upscale shops are their including Tiffanys. But I think that going to La Jolla would give you a much better overall experience.

anymore more window shopping idea?

Depends on what you are into. If you like thrift store shopping, 4th-5th Ave in Hillcreast (cross street 5th and university) has some great shops. Once I got a Kate Spade handbag for $40 there. It is also walking distance from Hash House....good food, but long wait.

The gaslamp quarter does not have much in the way of jewelry, but there is Horton Plaza a large mall (parking on 4th and F street) , and if you leave the mall, there are all sorts of fun shops of 4th and 5th Ave (yes the same 5th as above, just 2 miles away). There are several cute clothing shops that have pretty good prices. There are also tons of bars and places to eat. My favorate for dinner is Cafe Sevilla.

Have fun!

ETA: There are tons of good steak places, none of which I have been too, so this is second hand. The Gas Lamp Strip Club is a grill your own skeak place. I have herd great things, but when I went, the wait was too long. The prices are very reasonable. You can also google the Cohen (sp) group, they have about 7 restaurents total including the one I mentioned. My favorate is the Prado. Really good food and located in in the heart of Balboa Park, beautiful location.

I''d definitely hit downtown La Jolla, the Del Mar Plaza, downtown Rancho Santa Fe (you''ll see what I mean about big diamonds), or Coronado. Those are the places I tend to frequent for quality window shopping and site seeing if the weather is nice. As for steaks, I second Donovan''s Steak & Chop House, and would also consider Ruth''s Chris or Flemming''s.

To get a good feel for San Diego go to: http://entertainment.signonsandiego.com. There''s just so much to do here we''d need you to narrow down the list!

If you are planning on heading "Down Town" - the Gaslamp quarter has a lot of nice little boutique shops (as well as Horton Plaza - another mall - but I prefer Fashion Valley or UTC for that) and lots of little places to eat!

"got verrry sick from Cafe Sevilla from a bridal fair three years ago and was too afraid of trying them again."

Oh....that really sucks. I have never had a problem there, but I would never got back to a place I got sick at either.

i been to Ruth''s Chris here in town, so maybe i''ll try Donovan''s. we''ll be in San Diego for my wife''s niece graduation from med school. anyway, we''ll see what happens since there''re 9 other members from my wife''s side of the family going to this graduation.

Donavan''s is the go-to steak house for tourists in San Diego. I''ve never eaten there and have no opinion about it. A few other recommendations:

Nine-Ten (upscale California cuisine, uses lots of local produce) http://www.nine-ten.com/
Bully''s (casual, traditional steak house, a San Diego Institution) http://www.bullyslajolla.signonsandiego.com/

Both of the restaurants I mentioned are in La Jolla Cove (I think that''s what the signs say anyways), not UTC, where you''re staying, so it would be a short drive for you.

I like Donvan''s and it is very close to the Embassy Suites in LJ, but it doesn''t have a view of the bay like Ruth Cris does. So given the choice, I would definately go to Ruth Cris if you want steak and a great view. Everything else between the two is fairly equal.

And San Diego Lady is trying to corrupt you!! Hash House A Go Go is beyond awesome. I can''t stand to wait in line for anything, but I will in order to eat there. HobNob is also a great place with HUGE portions, so you can even same some for a second meal/snack.

We San Diegans really do have it all.
