I just won these from the Gem Trader on eBay and am SOO excited to get them in the mail!!! I thought I would post a teaser shot to share my enthusiasm, and promise to follow up with pictures as soon as I receive them.

I know at some point I am going to have to lay off the lavender spinels, but I just LOVE them!! How do you think these would look as sidestones for an OEC to make a 3-stone? Maybe something light yellow? I'm thinking that, or a really vibrant chryso...

oooohhwww, I like them. I decided today that with the sparkle you get from spinel, I'm gonna try and find diamond cut rounds. I received one from vendor Dan Stair of customgemstones, that is just sooo sparkly. I'm lovin it.

Those are lovely, PB, and Brad's photos tend to be pretty accurate, so it looks like you scored some beautiful lavender babies.

I love them! Haven't kept up with Brad's ebay auctions, dang! :rodent:

I bought some bright pink spinels around the same size, and put them beside my little OEC, and I found that the cut combo didn't really work, but my OEC is kind of cushiony. Perhaps you could post pics for a better idea?

Congrats!!! Those look like an awesome pair and would make excellent side stones. So jealous...

I was definitely surprised by the price I managed to snag them, given Brad's lovely work. I'm itching to get them in the mail, but since I'm a bit of a nomad the next little while, I had them shipped to my parents house out of province. I'll be heading there for a month long visit in a few weeks and didn't want to risk missing their delivery if they don't reach me before I leave, so I will have to made do with his pictures until mid-July.

Thanks for sharing your experience NKOTB, I don't actually have an OEC yet, but it's on my wish list and thought that might be a pretty pairing. I'll have to see how they look in person, and think about what I want. thbmok's thread on stud sizes has me thinking about putting these in martini settings to wear with jackets... but I think I'd want to enjoy them without having to look in the mirror :naughty:

You should see them in person first to evaluate how delicate in color they are. They look very light toned to me, and they may be overpowered by a strongly colored stone. They may also be very pretty as "diamond substitutes" in a three stone ring if the very light tone doesn't bother you. I personally like very light toned spinels, and since they're very well cut, they'll be very beautiful in person, albeit, I am guessing they're almost colorless.

I find that TGT's photography to be quite accurate. If nothing else, the stones are almost always prettier in person.

Well done. Any time you can pick up a beautiful pair of well cut gemstones for a great price you should go for it. Even if you don't use them in a project immediately, eventually they will find their home.

Those are lovely. I'm sure you will be happy with them. :))

This is kind of what I'm hoping for... I LOVE light toned lavender and pinks, so I'm hoping these have just a hint of colour without the grey that is so common in spinel. I do love my steely purples too, but I hope these will be more "dainty", without the "edge" I find the silvery/platinum (depending on which eBay moniker you want to go with) spinels have.

Those are really nice! I've bought a few things from Brad & been very happy. Nice guy too. A few wks ago he sold me a lot of 9 princess Montana sapphires, 2 mm. They are exactly the same color as his photos.

Waiting for pics when yours arrive!

Lavender color in the photo looks delicate and beautiful. (quite an educational experience, I always thought that Luc Yuen produced only electric-blue stones... live and learn! :) ). Please, post pictures when you get the stones!
