Does anyone here own jewelry made in palladium? I know it is in the platinum family, but is the least dense of those types of metals. Does your palladium resemble platinum as it ages? Have you noticed visible scratches and dents more often with palladium than with white gold?

My best friend''s ering and wring are made out of palladium. She has had them four about four years and is very hard on her jewelry. She probably has never had it cleaned. She loved that it was white like platinum but hard like white gold. However, at Christmas she showed me that her metal had yellowed. I was told by our jeweler (who made her ring) that palladium didn''t yellow and wouldn''t need to be replated. I would never have recommended palladium to her if I had known that she would have to replate it. I have platinum and love the fact that I never have to worry about the color.

I have a platinum ering and two palladium wedding rings. The colors match exactly. The only difference is that the palladium is VERY light in comparison to the platinum. I have not noticed any yellowing- and was also told it would always keep it's white color. I have also heard that there are different grades of palladium, so make sure get the best quality. Mine are from Ritani and they use a high grade palladium. Overall, I am very happy with my palladium rings.

I have a palladium band along with a platinum diamond band and ering. I would not hesitate to get all palladium the next time (not that there will ever be a next time) and put the extra money towards a bigger diamond. The two metals are wearing exactly the same.

Thanks everyone for your advice! I love this site!

I have a palladium e-ring, band, and a platinum diamond band. They look the same to me. My palladium rings are all stamped 950PD. I have not had any issues with them turning yellow and palladium should not need to be replated. I have heard of jewelers mixing palladium with white gold and I would assume that would need replated?

You mean alloying Gold with Pd? There is no metal known as White Gold.

Yeah, something like that. Whiteflash was going to do something like that with a ring I was considering ordering for them and I don''t remember the exact terminology they used. In the end, I would need to replate if I went that route.

I have a pair of earrings in Palladium. The Palladium is considered to be very white but for me it''s just a bit too grey - despite having a great sheen. On the plus side, the metal is light so brilliant for earrings. I wouldn''t have a ring made from it (even if is was rhodium plated) because I prefer the feel of Platinum and the whiteness of 18k white gold.

Palladium does not need to be rhodium plated. It wears and feels exactly the same as platinum, but platinum is much more expensive at the moment. Again, I have both, and I would ABSOLUTLEY choose palladium over platinum the next time. The stone is what you will get lost in, not the metal part of the ring, therefore, spend the extra money on the stone.

I have a friend who has a palladium wedding set. Her set has a lot of engraving, which I think shows the greyness of the metal more. It almost makes it look more antique...but still shiny so don''t worry about that. I think if you are going for a sleek modern design, palladium probably would not showcase it as well as white gold or platinum. Just my two cents.

I have a palladium semi bezel set solitaire. It has held up well with no yellowing. Brian and Lesley told me that the bench jewelers had a heck of a time
working with the metal. It is not as malleable as platinum, so it was hard to get the semi bezel around the stone. I have liked it, but it was intended as a
temporary setting for me. I will get a platinum setting again. I like the feel and the weight of it.

Can I see a pic of your ring? I''m looking for a semi bezel setting and would like to see yours...even if its only a temp setting. Sorry to thread jack!

Palladium can be used very pure - it can not yellow in such case, but it is a tiny little bit greyer than pure platinum, so if you platinum''s are the same identical color then the alloy in your platinum is also greyish.

I have another question to add - I chose platinum over white gold only because I could swim in it - the alloys (not the gold itself but the copper and nickle) are very susceptible to chlorine but platinum is not.

How does palladium hold up?

Well, I just got a palladium e-ring and am very happy with it, though I can''t discuss its wear pattern yet as I''ve had it less than a week!

But I''d love to know the answer to Sara''s question too, as I don''t do a lot of swimming right now, but I might like to start within the next year.

I have a plat. ring right now (irid alloy).

This thing gets scratched if stroked with a feather, seriously!

If I were to do it over I'd go with palladium - I don't much care about the heft anyway, so the facts that it's cheaper, looks the same, and wears better are bonuses

FI has a palladium band that's pretty scratched up, but he knocks it into everything so perhaps not the best metric
