Paraiba Tourmaline cabochon...

Ummm... It's going back. The adjectives dull and lifeless come to mind.

I'm sorry to hear this. I was hoping it would have some glow for you, as its a pleasing shape.

Cabochons will never sparkle due to having no facets. Their beauty lies in the satiny glow of colour and watery-like translucency giving it an ethereal quality. Is this the first cabochon you've seen in person? To say it is dull and dead is rather harsh and unfair because that is due to its cabochon form. Is it the colour or perhaps cabochons are not right for you?

I've seen several cabochons. I'm not expecting scintillation, or sparkle. I did expect a glow, especially from this material. Honestly I'm fine with returning the stone, there will be others.

Does it look like a "good" Paraiba to you? Am I off base expecting more from Paraiba Tourmaline that was said by the seller to "glow"? In all fairness they did say the color was rather weak and tried to steer me towards a larger more saturated stone. I'm going to save a little more and get a larger, more saturated cabochon from them.

Could you possibly white balance your camera for the light source you are using?
Check your owner's manual.
Both pics are way off, making it impossible to get any impression whatsoever of the color of the gem.

Judging gems from pics is a can of worms even with the best equipment and most skilled photographer, using a calibrated zillion-dollar monitor.

I understand what you mean now after your lengthy explanation. This was my concern when I initially watched the video; the tourmaline, while bright, did not exhibit much glow, in spite of the name and origin. I am sorry it was not as hoped for. Yes, there will be bigger and better ones out there....unfortunately with bigger $$$$$ too. :cheeky:

You were definitely right. Live and learn. =)

Sorry to see that it did not meet your expectations but onward - hopefully to one that does glow.

My camera skills are lacking, obviously. It's already boxed up.

Does it look like a "good" Paraiba? No. But then the seller was being honest with you if they said it was lacking in saturation.

With a Paraiba you get what you pay for I'm afraid. The price of this one gave it away without even having to see the photos. If you're set on having a nice Paraiba then you're correct that saving up is the only way to go.

I'm sorry you're disappointed but I think you maybe had an idea this wasn't going to be "the one". Good luck with your continued search.
