Passed down! Ruby, sapphire, and not sure! Thoughts??

don't know if i should be jumping into this one, but in my mind, this is really simple.

if there is one thing i've learned over the years, the ONLY way to know, for sure, about what you have in a gem is to send it to a high-quality lab. trust me, it's worth it.

i just pulled the price list for agl.

your sapphire is too big for a gem brief, but a verbal id is only $120. if they say it's real, you can go all out. otherwise, you're out $120 and the cost of shipping. if you have a synthetic, the id is expensive on a relative basis. but if it's real, the cost of the id is just a tiny fraction of the value.

just my 2 cents.

Well i am waiting to hear back on the type and location. I did exactly what you said with the pink one with inclusions and it is a natural stone. I didn’t want to respond until I had black and white proof. But as of now it is a real natural stone, and the type of specimen and location will be in at some point.

First it's not possible or responsible to identify a gemstone from a photograph, and it's not too responsible for a jeweler to just look at a stone and tell you what it is.

You mentioned you had purchased some gemological tool? Have you used them? What information or readings were you able to get. (And I don't consider a Presidium tester a gemological tool, no real geologist would use one).

Watching this thread and hope you get good news OP!

When I was 4 years old, my grandmother gave me "toy" pearls. They felt special to me and I took good care of them. When I got older, I noticed it had 14K written on the clasp. My mom took them to a jeweler who said18in of perfect round pearls.

When I was 16 or 17, I found a shiny bracelet on the floor of a mall parking garage. It looked like a CZ bracelet. I didn't think much about it unless years later I inspected it with a loupe and saw an "18" written on it. Jeweler said real diamonds and 18K.
Edit to say my teenage self should have known to turn it in to lost and found.
