Pear diamond vs Round Brilliant for pendant

Hi Everyone!

so iv been thinking about buying a diamond pendant for everyday wear, (0.50 ct) I initially wanted a pear diamond but now im thinking maybe i should get a RB instead. So here are my pros and cons, I love both and have got a few diamond on hold for both shapes

Pear
Pro, look bigger, I like the tear drop on a pendant, cheaper,
Con, I heard they show colour more (less than G), bow tie effect, harder to evaluate light return (online order) as there not graded for that.

Round
Pro, can evaluate light return using the calculator or can buy premium hearts and arrows, dosnt show color much so can go down to a H, classic

Con, face up smaller, significantly more expensive

what do you all think?

I'd suggest going even lower(for a round) With the size and cut quality you could easily go to a j pendent. And I vote round because it will appear bigger I think because the tips won't perform as well as the base will.

I am in the midst of having a pendant done at GOG with 1.33 AVC 'K' color. I thought long, hard on what I wanted, I had an old euro round diamond pendant in a probably F/G color but returned it to my former mother in law, so I have wanted an old style cut, but in looking at pears vs round brilliant I would go with a lower color round could even be an SI1, and you can get the best cut.. my aunt has a pear shaped diamond and it just doesn't sparkle as a round does.. BUT the tear drop look is really nice.. I love pendants.. if and when you decide I hope you will post a picture!

I had a 1.60 oear and sold it for my first studs and wear m y grandmothers OEC .80 in a yellow gold bezel with thick rope chain But I have a .10 pear shape tear drop my parents gave me as a teenager

interesting! As i am on a limited budget so I will have to go down on color/clarity for a round compared to a pear.

Honestly take a look at them, but I do think you could go down to a j si1/2 to get the size you are looking for.

Plus like I said edge to edge a round will have more sparkle than a pear.

I have a round, but my mom has a .53ct pear. I absolutely love the pear. It's a icy white F color, lovely shape, and just looks very elegant around the neck.
Sure my H&A has better light return, but the pear holds it's own. I just love it!!

zah-zah- I don't have any recent pics of the pear as it was a gift to my mom.
So I looked through some old ones posted here and i'll repost side by side so you can see.

The round is a 1.04ct K, VS1 H&A from GOG. It's a beautiful stone but I can see the color in it. It would be less obvious on a smaller round though.

The Pear is a .53 F, VS1 that I got from James Allen. I got it loose so was able to compare it to my .50 carat H ideal cut stones (i had loose for a ring I was making). The F pear was much, MUCh whiter, and dare I say "brighter". But the rounds had much more scintillation, there was much more going on with the rounds..lol. Just very different looks.

Wow those are gorgeous but I'm looking for a solitare without a halo.

I think I'm inclined to go for a RB for the classic look and more of a sparkly effect
I'm just worried half a caratRB will look small

I prefer to purchase stones that have pictures, video, or light-analysis, to help me determine the best stone for me.

A round can be anything you'd like it to be... worn with anything from jeans and a tee to your sexiest LBD! I have a round in a bezel pendant, and I wear it literally every day. Fluorescence is only exhibited where a large amount of UV light exists.

In almost all situations, a stone with fluor will most likely not appear blue. Blue diamonds are extremely expensive, so if the stone resembled a blue diamond, it would be priced accordingly.

Additionally, these effects are usually only seen in Strong / Very Strong stones, when they do occur.

The particular stone I suggested only exhibits Medium Blue fluor, so this isn't even a concern!

I am partial to pears for pendants because I love the way that the tear drop shapes looks, and I think they are quite elegant. The rounds are gorgeous too, but if I were starting from scratch, I'd go pear.
