Want to hear the real kicker? I got in trouble over it because I ''should have been nicer to the patron'' since obviously it was my fault that he got all snarky. After all, it''s not like a grown man caught swearing at top volume in a library would be defensive and rude or anything, now would he?Date: 7/30/2006 7:56:54 AM

People who use an OUTSIDE voice while talking on cell phone IN my LIBRARY.
Not only do they have no business yapping on their cell IN THE LIBRARY, they definitely should keep their voices hushed, not be hooting and hollering into their cell.
I recently told off a guy doing this not 6 meters away from the desk! He ripped into me for not being nice to people who ''make a mistake and don''t know the policy'' as if I was powertripping on him because he didn''t read the sign.
The policy?! You need someone to TELL you that you aren''t supposed to YELL in a gawdam library?!! This isn''t rocket science!
When I get really angry I''m very controlled and icy and my FF calls my expression the ''Librarian of DOOM face''.
even before the rudeness of how people use a cell phone, it has always been known one speaks quietly in a library. was this guy from another planet or so dense he really needed to have read a SIGN to know that?!
Heck no! He would have been thrilled to be asked to keep it down! Probably would thank you for it. I assume you asked nicely the first few times and were ignored? I am always disgusted by how people act when someone is merely doing their job, or when you try to do something nice for someone (let them cut in line like I have when I have a large cartful at the supermarket and a person comes up behind me with a couple things and the express lines are either closed or have really long lines...I say, oh, go in front of me...and I do not get a thank you or they suddenly decide to get more things and leave the aisle with stuff on the belt...I mean, is that really nice to do?
