I guess I will be the only one to bash the "picking-out-the-ring-together party" ... I think that it is much more romantic to provide a complete surprise! Sure, there is always a risk for "disappointment" but it comes down to trust I think. In the end, it really is about personal preference but as a guy (yes, I am not a lady in waiting - busted!) I have a blast going through the process, getting smarter about it and trusting my own judgment to make a great choice. I am sure it is not every guy''s cup of tea though. BTW one of my acquaintances picked the ring and the day - how romantic is that???
