Picking up dog poop

soocool said:
Autumnnovember, is this happening where you live in PA? If so contact animal control and get their advice. I am not sure if it is the same person as you are in Montgomery Cty and I am in Bucks.

I would not advise depositing and lighting the bag on fire. You could be facing serious charges for starting a fire. Better yet, deposit it on the car, on their door step and definitely leave an unsigned note telling them they left something at your place that belonged to them and you just wanted to make sure it was returned to the rightful owner.

I'm in Bucks too (Holland/Newtown) area!

This is at SO's house in North Jersey. Thankfully I'm not there so much right now but I know that it is still happening since I still go there a couple weekends out of the month.

I was told that they can get a huge fine for it and especially fined for not having the dog on a leash which they are guilty of as well.

I won't light it on fire because I'd be worried about having it spread or something and that would be pretty horrifying.

Can you take pictures of them 'not' picking it up?

Or, the most direct way - yell to them next time they are walking away "Hey, pick up your poop!"

I actually got pictures of the dogs at night time roaming around my yard...and their owner saw it. I sent the picture to the association (they asked me to) yet they did absolutely nothing about it. I hate the neighborhood SO lives in. The complex my parents live in (PA) is so much better =[

It's too bad things have changed. When I was young, everybody knew everybody on the block. Fast forward to present time....how well do you know your neighbors? Sorry to thread jack.

I've never seen an issue with lack of picking up poo here. However, I was once driving through Western Springs, IL, a suburb of Chicago, and witnessed two ladies letting their dogs leave their "leavings" and I hate to say this but I did yell out my car window "pick up the sh*t, b*tches!" Crass of me, yes...but there were no children around and really...someone needed to say something.

That is hilarious :appl:

I have two wonderful neighbors who don't bother picking up their dogs little treasures. On second thought, I shouldn't say little because they're far from "little".

It's gotten to the point where one neighbors dog is pooping only a couple feet away from my door, right next to my bushes.

It's annoying, disgusting, and it smells.

Sometimes I have to walk my dog when it is already dark out and I've stepped in dog poop numerous times because its basically a land mine out there.

Ok, I'm done now.

Have any of you had this problem?
I've complained more than once to the association.

I can't wait to move into a single home
yes, i had one of these neighbor. i scooped up the poops and then place it in front of their door steps... :praise:

After rereading this topic, I agree that light it on fire wasn't such a good idea, but I was young and dumb. I'm sorry that you are going through this. I can't believe the association didn't do anything to help you.

Maybe you can tell the people that you would be ever so grateful if they would pick up after the dog. I don't know. I say sweet talk is better then yelling at them.

I'd be polite and personally drop by to ask that they pick up after their dog. It's very hard to say no to a polite request in person. Of course, if they don't stop, I'd leave a reminder note. After that, all bets are off. Dog poo under their tires, and on their front porch. I'm sure DH could come up with other creative ideas to encourage them to pick up after their dogs. Some streets in SF are notorious for having dog poo everywhere (and in other parts of the city, it may not be dog...)

How did you know the dogs were female?

Monarch- I literally snorted while laughing out loud at this. You, ma'am, are a rockstar.

Haha, Kenny. I didn't have a clue whether the dogs were female, but their owners certainly were.

There are moments in my life when all decorum falls to the wayside and I completely digress. That day was "one of those" days. We all have them. *sniffs.*

This.

Ideally, you would catch them in the act, open your door, smile sweetly, and ask, "Oh, did you need a bag to pick that up with? Why, gee golly me, I have one right here!" and hand them the baggy that you have conveniently stowed by the doorway.

Some may call that passive aggressive. I call it the old-fashioned kill-em-with-kindness.

Big ditto to picking it up and putting it on their doorstep and such. However, once you have done it a few times, better be sneaky about it - because they can get picture or video of you, too, and then YOU get fined. Hopefully it won't take more than once or twice!
