Hello!

All your PSers are sooo talented. My ering will be completed sometime this week and I''m so excited!

However, I recently figured out how my digital macro function works on my Canon 7.1 digital camera (er, or not).

I''ve been practicing with some rings I have at home, but I can''t get any shots that even remotely clear as the ones you guy/gals have posted in this forum. Am I doing something wrong?

Is there a special technique? Setting my camera to macro immediately changes it to NO FLASH - which is fine with me - except that it automatically blurs the shot.

I''ve taken hundreds and not ONE has come out clearly...

Is this something the jeweler does for you?

=(

practice, that''s about sums it up. i was a bit frustrated at first when i got my canon and couldn''t get the shots i thought i would. then i just started hitting buttons, changing settings and holding the camera VERY still until i finally got something decent.

practice, for sure. It sounds like a few hundred shots has been practice!! whew.

I would say that I take my pics about 5-10 ft away from the ring and then I resize it on the computer to get it close up. This is the best luck I have had and my are no where near ''the best'' but they are clear shots of stuff..

I''d make sure you have LOTS of light, and you probably can''t have the camera as close as you want to the ring. I found that my Canon wouldn''t focus no matter how hard I tried because I was too close to the ring. Even with macro, there is a minimum distance the camera has to be from the item you are photographing. I also have trouble focusing on the ring when its being super sparkly (which is, of course, when you want to capture it!). Anyway, once I backed off a little, I could see the ring come into focus and knew that was the distance I needed to be at. I am working with a Canon digital SLR, so I use the viewfinder and, for the most part, can tell if I am in focus or not when I take the picture. Depending on your camera, the viewfinder may not be as useful (and we all know the dig camera LCD screens aren''t!), and it will come down to trial and error.

Ditto on holding it steady (having lots of light should help you here, too).

Keep trying, it''s worth it in the end!
