Hello Everyone,

I'm new here and still going through all of the pinned posts along with various gorgeous looking stones. I'm looking to pickup a Pink Sapphire, round, in the 6.5mm-7mm range. I was quoted about $1300 from a gemologist and given a few choices, however looking on my own I want to know what I'm missing.

Below is a link to one which looks fantastic to me but it's considerably cheaper at $900. What am I missing?

Thanks!

Slightly windowed but should close up in the right setting. The difference? Overhead costs. Your local guy has higher rent, higher utilities and a higher salary (just to make ends meet) than someone in Thailand.

Pink sapphires are sweet! The one you posted is shot under incandescent light, so you may want to ask David for a daylight photo.

I would bet 10,000 dollars of Mitt Romney's money that your local gemologist is quoting you prices of heated stones. There's nothing wrong with that, but often local people consider heating so ubiquitous that they don't really discuss with you that there are various levels of treatment sapphires can undergo, with a premium placed on unheated.

Great thanks for the pointers everyone! I went ahead and picked it up and I can't wait for it to arrive sometime next week. David was fantastic to work with and would highly recommend him for sure. Just in case I hate the stone though I have another on backup but I can't wait to see it in the setting =)

That was quick!

Wish I were that decisive sometimes! Please post pics when you get it, and specify whether you would like opinions because you might not keep it, or just want to post it for us to appreciate.

Can't wait to see this! I haven't seen a stone from Multicolour before on here, so I am wondering how realistic the pic is to the stone in real life.

I have a colour change garnet and a string of pearls from David and I was very happy with both.

Yes, it does seem that the folks who've bought from him have generally been very happy with their purchases. I just find his website so daunting because it has so much.
