Pink Sapphire - Help Needed

Hi all.

Any opinions on this one? It's from a vendor I trust and have done business with before.

It's a 4.01ct, and measures 10.40mm x 8.36mm. It's a little on the purple side though!

That is very purple and if you look you can see has blue running through it which means that it will naturally gravitate towards purple. I actually LOVE this colour but if you were looking for pink then I'm not sure that it fits the bill.

Africa Gems is a very well known Vendor and a number of us on this forum have worked with them. Their prices are reasonably high though.

The sapphire has a blue modifer, making purplish pink rather than a straight pink. It is also windowed so you'll see your hand through the middle where it'll also look dead / lifeless.

Like LD, I also think that whilst Africagems is a good vendor, pricing tends towards the high side.

It would be good to have a picture of that stone on the hand which would give you a better sense of how big a window it truly has. Even though I like that color, it doesn't make my heart sing...

Thanks - that was really helpful. It has a large window because it looks to be quite shallow. I'm not sure that any setting will be able to close that window completely, so its likely that you'll be able to see through a part of the stone to the hand/setting below it.

One thing nice is that it has a good-sized crown (seemingly, a high percentage of the overall depth) which means that it should have more sparkle and flashes reflected back than most.

Thanks for looking.

I am going to wait for the hand shot, and depending on that, I may take a chance on it. I can always return it.

Oooooooooo that has a really big window. Although I like the colour I doubt if you'll be able to minimise the window well enough for it not to be a distraction. I think you can find better if you're not in a rush.

That stone has a really large window.
ETA: Oops. That's already been mentioned above.

I will keep looking.

Thanks all.

Just to clarify, by window, do you mean table?

:errrr:

It means you can see through the stone to whatever is behind it. The middle doesn't have sparkle like the outer part of the stone..

That's what I thought. Thanks!

The window is very bad on the sapphire and no amount of cutting can save it because there is no depth to work with. Although it has a high crown, the window makes the center totally see through and dead, so any sparkle it might have is gone when the light is not returned back to the viewer's eyes. Yes, a window is when you cannot see the facet pattern of the pavilion come through.

That one looks SO much nicer! I would buy it, but then again, I'm partial to the softer pink colors and think the cutting and color on this one are good. But I thought you wanted a brighter pink stone?

It is worth following up on that sapphire if it appeals to you. Request a hand shot to check for colour accuracy and also to see if the colour concentration at the ends is less obvious.

I am not being critical with the shades of pink. As long as its pretty it'll work.

Will do. Thanks.

What do you guys think of this one (thanks inner kitten!)?

The vendor says its eye-clean-plus, well cut, bright, and very attractive.

Price is right also.
I like it! I love that shade of pink. As Chrono mentioned would be nice if they could send you a hand shot.

AJS' stones are typically one shade lighter than pictured when it comes to reds and pinks. This one also looks promising and it wouldn't hurt to ask AJS for hand shots as well. They no longer take additional pictures but who knows, perhaps they might on a higher priced item.

The Swala spinel is a stunning colour and leaves the one you've just posted in it's shadow. Oops! didn't refresh, I was talking about the previous pictures.
