Pink sapphire help/opinions?

Bow ties or/and reflections will seem a lot darker and stronger in light stones. I guess the contrast stands out a lot more when it is a light stone as opposed to a darker stone. This is the tricky part of loving and buying pastel CS.

I hope you will get a refund and hopefully all, if not most, of your money back.

I really hope you get your money back, OP! so sorry that you dealt with this in the first place. We would be happy to help you find your dream stone once everything is sorted out.

Honestly, having looked through most of the online catalogs of unheated sapphires, I'm contemplating just making a trip to San Diego so I can actually see some of the ones on gemfix in person. I'm not even a hundred percent certain of the color I want yet, as it's hard to know what works with my skin tone without having anything to compare with. Right now I'm thinking a pad or a sparkly blue oval sounds better than pastel, but really the only things I've ruled out are marquise cuts, white or overly dark stones, and probably no yellow or purple.

I would absolutely do this if its feasible for you. Seeing colors IRL is the best way to be sure, and gemfix is awesome

I’m not really seeing any purple but maybe I’m not that sensitive. It looks like how I would expect it to look indoors, unless you are expecting more white-pink?

The bow tie is pretty prominent, yeah, but most ovals/elongated shapes will have one. Unless you would consider a round or a cushion if you are back to the drawing board?

I guess I only figured out much later that I actually like the more peachy pinks of pads, but we'll have to see if anything comes up in a good quality (color, clarity - although sometimes a silky stone looks so good, too!) that actually fits our budget. Searching for a needle in a haystack sounds about right. I do prefer the elongated shapes of ovals, and even emeralds to an extent, but can be sold on a cushion or round if the color really speaks to me.

If you can wait until you can arrange to see multiple examples of different colors and shapes (Gemfix would be awesome for this :) ) in person, on your hand - IMO that’s best case scenario.

We have a fairly relaxed timeline, so even if it takes a year to find the perfect rock and setting, we'd be happy as long as the result is something I'd be happy to wear (forever, hopefully, as I'm personally not sold on the idea of upgrades for e-rings). Just trying to stay calm and patient for the journey now. In hindsight, we probably took the leap on the deposit way too soon just because the whole prospect was so new and exciting.

Sorry if anyone brought this up, but it’s best to view gems against a lighter surface. The original photos had a dark background which only enhances color. You always want to view gems in their worst lighting conditions, and multiple lighting conditions, as well as against pale backgrounds.

Good luck on your continued search.

I should go back and reread everything, but as someone who loves pink, I understand how hard this quest can be. I am currently sitting on three, recently impulse purchased... as I roll my eyes at myself. I’m not sure if you are in the US, but Yvonne Raley at CRD, might have or be able to get a sapphire for you as well. I just love working with her. I did see many excellent recommendations too. Your dream stone is out there.

I'm definitely a "need to see it with my own eyes first" kind of a person. There's times when I've fallen in love with a picture of a gem only for it to look terrible against my skin or something once I get it in person. Then there's other times when I find a ring with a center stone that's kinda fug and I think I'll just swap it out with something else later, but I end up really liking it as is.
