Pink Topaz? Tsavorite? Rhodolite?

PS has caused me to catch the jewlery making bug.

So I have a new project in mind, but my stone knowledge is not vast enough to execute it. So I turn to my friends at PS.

I am looking for two stones, one a Garnet and one a Topaz. I want one stone to be pink and one stone to be green.

What I am looking for guidance on is which stone should be which colour? Should I go with a Pink Topaz and a Tsavorite? Or a green topaz (does such a thing even exist?) and a Rhodolite? Any other variations of either stone will give me green or pink?

I would prefer natural, but I'm ok with treated. There are two pink topazes on John Dyer's site that look amazing, but I'm not Warren Buffet.

I'm also looking for sources. I know it takes some time to find the right colour, I'm looking for sites I should stalk in order to find the stones I should be looking for. I know some sites are better for certain stones than others.

Oh they are for a pendant, so wear and tear is not as much a issue.

Thanks for any help given.

Green: garnet (includes tsavorite and it's lighter kin and demantoid), tourmaline, beryl (emerald and it's lighter kin), quartz.
Pink: spinel, garnet, tourmaline, topaz, beryl (morganite), sapphire.

Pink topaz is quite costly, especially if the colouration is strong and untreated. Rhodolite tends towards a purplish hue.

Are there pink Garnets that are not Rhodolite?

That is REALLY nice.

But that would leave me looking for a Green Topaz which would be for sure artificial. Right?

Yes, natural very pale green topaz exists but you are more likely to find synthetic green topaz and irradiated green topaz.

bp, I would check out the sticky thread at the top of this page, which has a whole list of vendors that have been vetted and are well liked by PS members. For example, look through Multicolour.com just to get an idea of what green and pink stones exist that might be suitable for your project. I would check out AC Stones to see what Barry has lying around on his site right now, as his cutting is some of the best (imo) and his prices are very reasonable. I think you'll be pleased with the choices you find you have.

I think I may have misled in my OP. I want a Garnet and a Topaz. Just was a matter of either green Garnet and Pink Topaz or Pink Garnet and Green Topaz.

I think I have decided on Green Garnet and Pink Topaz. If you think I should go with the other combo let me know.

I have looked through the list and checked out quite a few. Are there ones you would recomend to stalk to find the two types of stones I'm interested in.

As well I am looking to have one custom cut into a funky shape. Is there a lapidary you would recomend that routinely works with Garnets or Topaz? And does funky Fancy cuts?

I will check out multicolor and AC Stones though. Thanks.

Green garnet and pink topaz is the most likely combination for success. It's $$$ though depending on how strongly saturated you want it to be.
