I am delighted to report that as of late Sunday night, I''m off the list! I started a thread in Colored Stones with ring pictures, since I have a beautiful padparadscha sapphire on my hand!
So my boyfriend (now FI!
) is NOT a planner, so I was somewhat shocked to discover that he was planning an elaborate proposal. Unfortunately for him, he had two plans wiped out because the ring wasn''t ready. So when he got it on Thursday (unbenownst to me) he was raring to go. We''d been invited to a friend''s house for dinner that Sunday night, and he contacted her and swore her to secrecy.
There were 7 of us there, and after dinner we started to play a charades-like game, as we often do. We all wrote clues on scraps of paper, put them in a bowl, and started to play. Just before my turn, we decided we wanted tea and coffee, and so I went out to the kitchen with my friend to make it.
When I came back for my turn, I reached into the bowl to pull out a piece of paper, knowing I would have to get Josh to say the exact words that were on the paper. It said "Will you marry me?" So did ALL the clues in the bowl. He hemmed and hawed for a moment, but was too keyed up to make me suffer for long! We did all the usual things wrong - he reached for my right hand, I forgot to actually say "yes", stuff like that.
Then my darling friends whipped out champagne, a beautiful cake with our names on it, and the roses my FI had brought and hidden from me, and the hugging started.
I would have said that I would be the last person to want a public proposal, but in the event it was pretty much perfect. I have known it was coming since early December when we first went ring shopping, so it wasn''t exactly a surprise. But he managed it in such a way that I was still completely stunned and overwhelmed, and then some of my closest friends were right there for celebration. It was lovely!
For those of you who''ve been on the list for a long time, take heart! We''ve known each other for 12 years now, and we''ve been talking about marriage off and on for the last 3 or 4. But I thought he would never be ready. And yet - here I am with a ring on my finger and a wedding to plan!
