I already know I want a small band because of my girlfriends small fingers and because it will emphasize the center stone. My question is should i go with the plain solitaire Tiffany 4 prong look or try finding a nice paved look? Any input is appreciated.

Both can be beautiful... but here''s my opinion. When you get a ring with pave, people will see a beautiful ring. When you get a plain, simple solitaire, people will see *the diamond*. So do you want to emphasize a piece of jewelry, or simply highlight a beautiful stone?

My set is pave, and it definitely makes a "jewelry statement". In my next life

I think I would like a plain solitaire... to just showcase the diamond.

JMHO, of course!

My personal choice is to have the diamond in a plain, beautiful solitaire and then get a diamond wedding band.

Actually, Lynn, I love your set! I am currently in the mode of having found a beautiful antique set, but I hate to give up my solitaire! I think we all need two sets!!!!

I think you should find out which she would prefer

Yes, I was just about to say that this can be a personal decision! I prefer a diamond shank on the ering, but others clearly don''t. What matters most is what SHE prefers.

I had a plain shank on my ering. Now I have pave. I really like both. The pave setting looks a little more "antique style" to me which fits my stone. Although some settings with diamonds look very modern pave doesn''t to me. So consider what your GF likes and consider what style would look good with your stone.

Lynn B,

You gave me this advice before, and it helped me decide. Thanks!

That would be my vote too.

My DH asked me before we got engaged what shape stone I would like, and whether I wanted diamonds in the setting...I told him I would rather he spend his budget on the center stone and not worry about side stones. It worked out well, he gave me a beautiful solitaire and when we chose our wedding bands he wanted me to get something with diamonds even though I would''ve been just as happy with a wide platinum band...I love my rings (see avatar), and I have sometimes thought of resetting my diamond into something more blingy to match my wedding band but I''ll save that project for a special anniversary. We''ll be married 4 years in September, so maybe for our fifth I''ll look seriously into resetting. You could go the same route, as others have also suggested! Best of luck in your decision!

I would chose a plain solitaire and get a jazzy wedding band!

This is really more of a preference, and I personally prefer pave. However, pave requires maintenance and if she won''t be willing to occasionally replace stones than it''s probably not right for her. No matter what, I''d get her the style that you think she likes more.

I''d suggest you put the stone in a simple, temporary, gold setting to propose with. Then let your gal shop for the setting she loves.

You never know,......... She may already have one picked out!!

I too am loving the plain simple ering.... Lynn, your set is beautiful... If you were going to go plain would you do real thin bands or more like Jcrow...2.5 mm each? I like the idea of having the plain and diamond band as options....
