Planetary Gems - Experiences?

To be honest, I would wait and continue looking. I know it's difficult and frustrating but finding colored gems, especially sapphires is hard. Even when you think you've found something it often disappoints irl and gets sent back anyway. Something doesn't seem right with this pair. Speaking from experience here! I'm sorry none of the trusted vendors could help, but it pays to keep checking. I would especially keep in contact with Roger Dery, Gemfix and Mastercut Gems as they seem to get new sapphire material regularly.

Just to update everyone who has been so helpful and shared their experiences, I decided to spend a little more money and go with a great cut pair from Gemfix which seems like a much more trustworthy site.

Besides, the ones I wanted from PG were suddenly "Reserved" and not available after I expressed serious interest.

I attached a picture of the Gemfix sapphires I bought. I put in the order already and am nervously awaiting my arrival. Since they will only send to your credit card billing address and it's a gift from my mother in law, they will go to her first and she will have to overnight them down to me which makes the wait even longer.

So what do you think? How do these look compared to the ones on the PG site? They were a few hundred more but look better cut and the picture doesn't look photoshopped to death.

They're 5.4mm instead of 5.5mm but I don't think that's really a noticeable difference. I can't tell the difference between 0.1mm to be honest and I don't think anyone else can either.

I will start a separate thread for these once I receive them and have a chance to play with them and admire them.

Since these are unset, does anyone have any suggestions on who to go to get these set? I'd like a delicate 4 claw prong setting. After I get the earrings, I'm planning on getting 6mm jackets and eventually building a collection of colored gem studs that I can wear with the earring jackets. I can change them up depending on my mood or outfit. I really don't wear much jewelry, just studs, a small necklace, a watch and my e-ring so I think switching up on some studs would be a nice way to mix it up a little as my other jewelry always stays the same.

Thanks for all of your kind advice and help in my search!

Congrats, I hope you love them! If you have a jeweler, you can pick a pair from stuller and have them ordered and set that way. DanielM on Etsy, and some of the other Etsy vendors or other recommended vendors would surely be happy to help too. Someday I hope to have a very similar pair and maybe a set of jackets to go with :naughty:

P.S. The cut is gorgeous and I can't wait to see the color in your photos.

bluebirrrd - Thanks for the response, yes I can't wait to see them in person. They look gorgeous on the hand shot the color and especially the cut. The extra faceting on the Portuguese cut makes them look so sparkly. It seems great minds think alike as jackets are the next item on my hit list.

Does anyone have any recommendations for setters? I was thinking about going to IDJ since I'll probably get the jackets from them but are there any other good ones out there that won't charge me too much? I just want a simple 4 delicate claw prong setting preferable with screw on backs so I don't chance losing them.

I really can't wait to receive them. However, since they were a gift from my MIL, I used her credit card and she's in NJ and I'm in FL. So she'll get them first and have to overnight them down here before I can even get my greedy paws on them.

Again, if anyone has any suggestions on affordable setters either in white gold or platinum, please let me know. I have to get them set, can't just tape them to my ears or else that would look very silly.

Thanks!

Have you gotten them yet?

I haven't worked with Planetary Gems, although I considered one of their stones for my engagement ring. I didn't get a great vibe from PS about them and I didn't really want to risk it for something like my ering, you know?
