Hi! I have a quick question:

In regards to platinum: what is the difference between 900 and 950?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks! So do most experts perfer to work with the 900 vs. the 950 because it is more mallable than the other mixes? Is it okay that the 900 is not quite as hard as the 950?

If you had a choice between only 950 Plat 50 Ru or 950 Plat 50 Ir ... which would you choose?

I prefer 95% plat., 5% iridium

950 Plat 50 Ru

I was not happy with the malleability of 950 Plat 50 Ir prongs.

Do a search for futher info & links to metal manufacturer''s data sheets

You've got it backward. The 95%(w/iridium) is softer and easier to work. Therefore you pay a little labor premium to get the 90%. Mark Morrell uses the 90% because he thinks it is the best (harder than 95/5). My jeweler concurs because they have Tacori rings in 95%plat/5% iridium coming in all the time with lost stones, dents, etc, and people are unhappy.

I was wondering if the alloy affected the shine/polished look of the platinum? And if so, which one looks, and stays, the most polished?

Thank you.

I prefer 950 Plat 50 Ru or 900 Plat 100 Ir...
