Hi all :)

I know some of you have vendors you've used for gold chains, but does anyone know of a reputable vendor for platinum chains? I'm looking for something to use for pendants, around 17-18", lobster-claw clasp preferred, probably between 1.0-1.3 mm thick. I DON'T want a snake or box chain. They always look twisted or kinked to me. I've looked around at the major jewelers and have only been seeing white gold... Blue Nile has only one option that might work, but I don't love its style.

As an aside, what would you do with this platinum necklace? I bought it years ago from Blue Nile. It's a really pretty necklace in that the little beads and bars shimmer and catch the light in a way that it almost looks like there might be some micropave somewhere in it, though there isn't. But I never seem to know quite how to wear it. I think it's probably too thick/substantial for a pendant, but it's too short (I think it's 17" but need to double-check) and not quite chunky enough to stand totally on its own. It weighs 9.8 grams. Am I being silly? Would you put a pendant on it or wear it totally on its own? I need to get a neck shot taken and post it too.

Is it doubled up as shown in the second picture? Wearing it alone or not will depend on your body structure, if you are ample or very slim, long necked or short.

Stuller and Herco carry them, but you'd have to check with a jeweler who can check the price and order it for you. Good to see what's available though, in terms of type of chain and weight!

Chrono, I just realized I never answered your question. Yes, it appears "doubled up" - it's actually quadrupled, though, like a box chain, with 4 little strands of beads and bars all attached together in a square to make a thicker, intricate box chain-type style. It measures 2mm exactly. Blue Nile still carries the matching bracelet and earrings but it doesn't say the thickness. Don't they know jewelry lovers care about this kind of thing? :nono: To say 1/16" isn't good enough!

If BN still carries this style, why not email or call to ask for the thickness measurement? It's very pretty and femimine and I like that it is quadrupled (in a square / rectangle) for extra strength and presence. I would wear it alone and with a pendant. 17" isn't too short to wear a simple smallish pendant.
