My lovely fiance finally proposed two Fridays ago, with the ring we selected through the help of this forum back in April/May. It's so perfect, bright white in regular light and a fireball in dim lighting - love it. It's so new I haven't even had a chance to post it in SMTB!
We are on our vacation this week in the Cayman Islands, and when I took my ring out of its box the other morning, I noticed it has a very very bent bottom. It's quite flat, but it's not even symmetrically flat. I'm quite certain it didn't look like that when we left for the trip on Friday (maybe a slight ovaling, but I figured it was just adjusting to my finger shape), but we noticed this severe bending on Sunday morning. I can't for the life of me think of anything I did with my hands that would have done this. On the trip I haven't used a steering wheel, I haven't lifted weights, I don't wear it when I sleep nor in the shower - and when it's not on my finger it's in its box. The only thing I can think of was me falling asleep in a car ride, for maybe 20 minutes. Perhaps I was leaning on my hand funny? Perhaps it has gotten bent when I put it in the box and close it? I mean, I think there's plenty of room in there but I just can't tell and don't know what else to think! But even then, a piece of fine jewelry shouldn't do that! Right?!
I took it to the jewelry store in our resort (tiny store) to ask what she thought, and she said it's not platinum! I called BS, because this was bought from Good Old Gold (reputable business), has "PLAT" stamped on the inside, and I don't think she was a jeweler, just the person who operates the cash register. She offered to shape it back to round, but I worried about her jewelry knowledge (I know platinum can bend, she didn't) to trust her with it. I was also worried about any work done affecting the pave diamonds' settings in the band.
So... I guess my questions are:
Have you heard of a platinum band bending so quickly?
What are my options? What can a jeweler do, and how can we ensure the pave diamonds stay safe?
Does anyone know Good Old Gold's policy on things like this? I have free internet in the resort but not phone - otherwise I would've been on the phone in a heartbeat.
I'm trying not to panic, because the ring looks really bad, but I'm literally losing sleep about this. It doesn't even feel right on my finger anymore... like it's pinching me... I have a 10K yellow gold on my other hand that I wear every day, everywhere but the shower, and it's going on 3 years with keeping its round shape.
edit: For reference, this is the ring in question:

I'll see what I can do about getting a real photo of the bent band up.
