Is this the knife edge or the classic 6 prong that most of the ps vendors here sell?

I can't really tell for certain.

The reason I ask is because we went to Tiffany's today and they only sell one classic style soliatire... i didn't see a "knife edge" specifically

if there are indeed two real tiffany settings, one that is knife edge and one that is not, can someone point me out to it on their website or provide some source to verify?

thanks

The Tiffany settng, they call it their classic and it is, has a knife edge to it. What the vendors sell is a Tiffany replica setting. There is only 1 setting like this at tiffany.

Thank you, Mrs W. I was getting confused about how vendors were selling two variations of tiffany settings, so now I see why the knife edge costs so much more!

some vendors will call any 6 prong traditional setting a Tiffany setting and it really doesn''t look at all like the real Tiffany solitaire. However, Whiteflash and Excel both offer a very close replica of the real Tiffany setting. Tiffany only sells one classic solitaire and it does have a slight knife edge.

When first looking at rings, I fell in love with how the head of the Tiffany setting meets the shank. I found it much more elegant than a lot of stock 6-prong settings you'll find in maul stores. Mrssalvo made a good point that Whiteflash and Excel have much better copies of the original than what many vendors will try to sell you as a "Tiffany".

That said, if you like the feel of the Tiffany, but want something a little more unique, you might want to look into Mark Morrell. Don't go to him and ask for a Tiffany replica - he'd refuse - but his designs, both stock and custom, are just beautiful and wonderfully crafted. And, in terms of style/quality - I walked into a Tiffany's, and the woman behind the counter pointed to my ring and asked if it was one of theirs.

That''s my ring! Its a lovely ring, the knife edge makes it more delicate on the finger and really showcases the diamond as does how its set a little higher. I love it. I do recommend trying on wedding bands with the ring though since it took awhile for me to find one that I liked.

Do you think the Tiffany setting is high? I am amazed at how low it is, especially compared to the other designer settings I have seen! My stone hardly ever gets caught on anything, which is wonderful because I wear gloves for work on a regular basis.

The knife-edge definitely makes the ring more streamlined, IMHO. Keep in mind that some people actually find the knife-edge to be uncomfortable, but it''s purely from person-to-person. I have decent-sized gaps between my fingers so it feels fine to me!
