Hey amguy! Glad to see you back!

I'm sorry, I am the one who bought that from Barry last week. :(

But it's actually more magenta than red in most lighting.

Don't be sorry, it went to a good home. :D Please post pics!

iLander, I know you have been looking for this perfect stone for a while now. You seem very passionate about it. Due to that I would most definitely up the anty on it. $88 dollars will not really cut it. I don't know what your price range is but I would go much higher. Save up ..say $500 or more. You could snag a sweet piece of facet rough that will suit you fine. Clean enough and large enough as well as close to a decent pure red as you can get for that much. Only reason i am saying this is you seem to have a real desire to nail the look you have in your mind. I would not mess with rough like this $88 one since it's a waste of your time. Spend the money, get the good good, and in the end you will be much happier. You don't want to spend $88 or $100 and get something finished that will disappoint. Have someone like Lisa or one of the other cutters source a stone for you. They have the knowledge and expertise to pick and choose and they can cut the stone for you. Works out real well since most cutters don't like cutting rough sourced from customers. Tuscon will be coming up in Febuary. Find a cutter or dealer who will be there..send them $500+++ to find the right stone for you. I am sure those Nigerian rubellites will be back again this year or some of the foreign dealers will have some good red spinel rough.

Thanks, amguy, I know you're right. But, I am determined to get this sucker done. :? If it kills us ALL

Now if the price of gold would stop rising . . .

I liked this rough because it looked so red . . . sigh . . .

Something's not quite right with that listing; I know there's good deals to be had but a 2 carat plus flaming red Mogok spinel for around $400 is hard for me to believe. Sure it has a BGL cert but how do we know it's for that particular stone since the memo does not come with a picture? Can the memo be verified to be sure it isn't a fake? Can those who purchased from Gem Earth vouch for the accuracy of their pictures?

Chrono I thought about that too. But there gems look so gooood!

Their photos, in particular that one, look clearly enhanced.

Looks often are deceiving. I've never bought anything from them but they seem to have a good return policy?
TL have you bought anything from them.

I know one vendor (who some PS'ers also buy from) that buys a lot from them and resells their merchandise. He's very happy with the quality, but I have suspicions about them, which may or may not be unfounded This thread discusses those. You need to make your own decisions because even though I have my suspicions, I never bought anything from them.

Ahh it is a bee's hive that I don't wanna open eh?
If only all vendors were honest...
I have to post pics of these "green spinels" I bought. Pretty sure they are fake. You will get a kick out of em.

Have you talked to Gene? I saw this (sold) rubellite, which he says is redder in person and holds its color in various lighting. The price also seems as though it would fit in to your budget. I'd ask him if he has more rough.
