Now the local jeweler I ordered the ring from is trying to push me on one of their stones. I gave them a copy of my cert. for the measurements, and they went out and found "comparable" stones to try to get me to change my mind. I thought they'd respect the fact that I found my stone elsewhere...at least I'm getting the ring from them! Now, are they going to do a lousy job mounting the stone if I don't buy theirs?

Will do, quaeritur! I'm so excited...I don't know if I can make it that long!

If I were you, I'd come right out and ask them that. You might also want to make certain (appraisal after setting) that you got exactly the diamond you gave them put in the ring. While I wouldn't expect them to to a shoddy job to "get back at you," it doesn't hurt to be cautious. Also, trust your instincts. I usually regret it when I don't. Good luck with this... I think it's going to turn out stunning, no matter where you have it set!

I'm sure no expert, but this looks REALLY nice! Do you know the difference between the CULET = "None" and CULET = "Pointed"? I have seen these 2 different descriptions for the CULET on some descriptions and I don't know the difference. I thought that the CULET would always be pointed??? Great diamond!

The jeweler has a good reputation, so I suppose they wouldn't risk it by pulling anything like that. I'll see how they react when I tell them that I've gone with my stone.

LucyG: From what I understand "none" and "pointed" culets are the same thing. "None" is the designation used by GIA, and "pointed" is used by AGS. Not all culets are pointed; you'll come across small, medium, etc. Apparently, some cutters make it a flat facet to protect it from getting chipped.

Well, if this were me, I'd simply purchase the mounting from the jeweler when it arrives and then ship it to DCD and let *them* mount the stone.

As far as dealing with the pressure from the jeweler, you could nicely say "I really appreciate your efforts to find options for me, but I've already committed to this stone and purchased it. It's now beyond the return window, so I'm staying with this stone. I now know that you have the resources, though, to find comparable stones and will certainly keep that in mind because I'm sure I'll be in the market in the future as well for gifts for my wife."

Subtle message: You're not getting this sale, but you have the potential to get others if you accept my decision gracefully.

Yay!

I just a call from DCD telling me that my wire has been received, and that the release has been sent to AGA! Now I have to wait patiently for the diamond to arrive???

Why doesn't FedEx do real-time tracking so I can watch it flying to me? This is going to be a long day... Thanks everyone!
