Hi Firegoddess,

Okay, well I finally discovered how to start a new topic, so this will be the third time for me to post this message. I apologize for any of you who have already seen this.

"I love everything about your ring, Firegoddess, and am hoping to get a similar one, just with a round-cut center stone (probably 1.25-1.5ct). I''m just learning about diamonds, settings, and everything else, and I want to make sure I ask for the right thing when my boyfriend and I go to the jeweler.

I know I want the center stone to be prong set rather than bevel (is that the right word?), which will make it sit up a little. But I don''t want any space in between the center stone and the halo, and I don''t want it to sit too high off the halo. It looks like yours is set that way, and I was wondering if you knew how high off the halo yours sits.

Also, how is your eternity band set? Is that micropave? I know I don''t like channel-set. I love the look of a four-prong shared setting, but I don''t know if you can do that in the width I''d like (1.8mm or smaller). I just like to see the shape of the diamond rather than a metal band around them. I also like to see a little of the diamond from the side too.

Yours seems to be the ring I want. There''s also a Leon Mege cushion-cut halo ring that seems to be what I want too. (here''s the link: http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=286) I know that I like these pictures, and I will definitely take them to the jeweler, but I want to be able to say what I want too, just so there''s no confusion. There are some halos that I really dislike, so I want to make sure I don''t mess up. My boyfriend would kill me.

I would really appreciate your help with this and all the specs you''ve got. Thanks!"

Also, I was wondering if you have any side pictures of your ring. The more pictures I can show my jeweler, the better. Thanks again.

I so apologize for not seeing this sooner - I only happened to catch it because I did a search for my screenname to pop up one of my earlier threads so I could add some info to it, and this thread came up in the search. Again, I am sorry for not seeing this earlier!!

My stone is prong set above the halo (not bezel set), so it does sit up a little higher than the halo does. This is only slightly noticeable from the top view, but I rather like it because it seems to enhance the difference in *sparkle* between the way the pear shows off its brilliance versus the way the halo glitters. It also seems to enhance the apparent size of the stone, which is sweet. Having a space between the stone and the halo is called an ''airline''. Tell the jeweler you do not want any airline between those components of the ring. I have seen them and they do look pretty, but I do not have one in my ring.

My eternity band is set with shared prongs. I believe my ring is just around 1.8 or 1.9 mm wide. You''ll be hard pressed to find someone to go smaller, because that will greatly affect the integrity of the ring. It''s not worth it to go smaller than that. That would already be using 1 or 2 point stones in the band, which will be very dainty!

I know I have posted a side view of the ring somewhere. I will dig it up. As I recall it wasn''t the best picture, but it did the trick.

Okay, found it. If you notice, the stone is set tilted...the back of the pear is a little higher than the front. That was not intended. That was the lesser of two evils, the first being that they set the stone slanted - higher on the left than the right. I was so disgusted after that, and the way that they didn''t redo the prongs when they were supposed to fix it, just sorta smooshed them, that I didn''t want to bother with that jeweler anymore and let it stay slightly tilted downward, which was better than crooked.
