Please help! Is this a good diamond? Close to buying...

It is EGL graded so I am a little uneasy but it is a hearts and arrows cut and looks to have minimal inclusions. Will the I be too yellow? thanks so much for any opinions!

what are the crown and pavilion, and do you have a hearts image to verify H&A? EGL is not selling H&A diamonds - they simply notate it if it's inscribed on the girdle.

I just added the crown and pavilion numbers. It doesn't have the image.

looks like a decent stone accounting for percentage-reporting error margins.


whether it's H&A is anyone's guess without images, so don't pay a H&A premium without them.



ETA: one thing to note - EGL I's I is most likely a GIA/AGS j or k

Thank you! Would a GIA J or K stone still look white? It doesn't have to be super white I like the look of an H stone. Oh and the price is $3280. Seems like a good deal?

Some, myself incl., would happily put a GIA J/k in wg/plat knowing that it will show some tint from some angles in some lights. I (just my personal opinion) think when you get to K there's no hiding that it's tinted, you'll have to embrace it - but that doesn't make tint bad, you just have to know you/your intended likes it! Others would prefer to stick to higher colours in white settings.. So to answer the q no, it will not look white (and if you've been looking at GIA/AGS H's, it will not look like that). It will not look yellow either, more off-white/cream/ivory.

Price is absurdly low...trouble is, with diamonds, you generally get what you pay for. For ex. here's a true H&A AGS J/VS1 (1.14ct) from an online store (generally less markup) for 6k:

If you decide to go for it, make sure you have a good return policy in writing, and have an independent appraiser check it out.

For me a K colo AGS was too tinted. I traded up for a G.

You get what you pay for -- the diamond itself is worth a certain amount, regardless of the cert. The cut seems good, though you would need an IS to know for certain, so to me that means that something must not be totally fabu, just based on the price. I suspect color is "actually" lower than a true I. But if you want a 1.15ct diamond for under $4k, then you have to sacrifice something. Better color than cut.

$6300-$6500 range if this was a GIA/AGS graded stone.
