Hey guys and girls !!!! Ok so for the past couple of months I have been pondering the idea of suprising my soon to be bride with a stunning necklace to wear on our wedding day. At first I asked White Flash about thier "Opera with a Drop necklace" but it was ranging in the 6-7 K range !!!! Yikes ... to much for my budget at this time.... Then I was wondering about the three pears in a row or a Halo pendant like aljdewey''s and I got quoted about $3400. Then I was recently think about the XO pendant and almost convinced on that one until I came across Matatora''s thread on her blue halo, and yes Mataora it is absoutley stunning !!!! So while I was looking at that thread a light blub clicked and I thought what if I went back to my origional idea with the opera with a drop necklace but instead of having a diamond pear drop, replace it with a sapphire or something else still accented by the diamond marquise diamonds. I was think either a blue or pink.... possibly even a yellow stone. But I know blue is her favorite color ,which matches her eyes, and she loves pink as well. Anyways I was wondering what everybodys ideas are on this thought and if everyone could help me on this or if anyone has a better idea for a design. By budget is about 3K but Im flexible with it, and I am going to have White Flash do the work since thats who I have always gone with. The wedding is on April 29th so time is ticking away !!
I will attach a photo of the opera with a drop necklace and a photo of my soon to be bride .
Thanks everyone for helping me on this !!!!!

Maybe I should have my fiance talk to you about MY wedding present?? J/K

I don''t like the idea of two marquises touching each other (sorry wrong forum) with the girdle.
Chip is in the air...
Wish you could be my stepmother!

Let me clarify, are you essentially hoping to recreate the necklace pictured above but with a colored pear?

yes stermag thats right .... unless anyone can come up with a better design !!!!!!

You''re going to have to add to your budget methinks.

I asked because I was recently hunting for a pear cut sapphire - there didn''t seem to be very many, or at least I''ve found something wrong with virtually every one I stumbled upon (poor cut, poor color, too small, too expensive).

How big is that diamond pear in the necklace? Is this something Whiteflash already offers or would it be a custom job? I guess I''m trying to gauge how big a sapphire you would need to preserve the balance.

I do like your idea (and the necklace) - in terms of replacing the diamond with a colored gem, I would either go with a sapphire or another blue stone (it can be her "something blue"). I''m not sure how I would feel about a different color... but that''s just me, of course.

ok here are some pictures of my fiance so everyone can have a idea of what a necklace would look on her

no yellow gold but white or platinum for her.
cute!

What are your wedding colors though? Something to consider. It sounds like it will be gorgeous. I LOVE the one Pricescope posted too

I was going to say that, too. Replacing that diamond with a sapphire is certainly not going to cut cost by $3000. Unfortunately, fine sapphires are quite expensive. In fact, I doubt that even removing that pear altogether would bring the cost down below $3000... unless the pear is close to a carat... is this possible?

Have you considered focusing your $$$ on creating a beautiful pendant for her? You might have a bit more options that way.

well im thinking thats the necklace dosent have to be the exact same size as the WF one but rather a scaled down version of it to cut back on cost

The WF one was a 2 carat pair with with .5 carat marquise diamonds.... so I was thinking to scale it down...

Signal, pretty sure we''ve got enough of her photos now. If you end up looking for a sapphire to replace the diamond pear, you might want to start a thread in Colored Stones. First, though, figure out what the cost of the rest of the necklace would be, so you know what your remaining (sapphire) budget should be.

ya sorry stermag .... I sometimes get carried away !!!

No biggie. I''ll gladly join you in a hunt for a sapphire pear - I''ve been looking for one myself, hence my interest in your thread.

Oh, Pricescope, could you resize me too please?

what color do yall think would look better a blue or a pink ??? Her dress will be obviously white and then looking at her pictures, which color would accent her better ? Also wouldnt it be better to figure out the size of the center stone first that way you can guage about how big the marquise diamonds should be?

thanks pricescope for the resizing !!!!!!

Pink would go well with her hair, blue would go well with her skin and eyes. Does she like yellow or white gold? What kind of white is her dress (pinkish white, off-white, ivory, icy white, pure white?)

Oh, well, yes... it depends on what your focus is. I thought preserving the size but replacing the center with another gem was the aim. It''s really a chicken or egg type of question - you can easily spend your entire budget on a nice sapphire and have little to nothing left for the rest.

If it were me, I would figure out what size/design/proportions I was aiming for and do a feasibility study (i.e. can I still get a center of this size if the rest of the necklace is going to cost XXX). Of course there is more than one approach to this.

In terms of color - I once read that blondes look best in blue, red heads in green and brunettes... gosh... I can''t remember and I''m one!!!!

Her dress is what she calls candle light which is between white and ivory.. I talked to Lesley and Bob at WF and they said that the marquise diamonds would have to be specially cut so we decided to replace the marquise with round ACA diamonds to fit more in my budget... would the pear drop stone still look good with round diamonds or would a better shape drop stone go better.... Dose anybody know of any site where I might start looking for the colored stone... Also she said that her bridesmaids dresses are navy color.... I didnt want to ask to much about it cause she was starting to get suspicious !!!! Im thinking a pink might go better with the color of her dress and white gold for the necklace.

I think your sentiment is delightful and sweet! How nice!!! What a lovely gift she is sure to treasure forever!

I know you are asking about the color...pink or blue......and this is just MHO, but I would prefer all diamonds...or cz''s or whatever....just white. I know the cost may be slightly higher....but you wont have to worry about whether it matching her dress, or the bridesmaids dresses, etc...

and then in the future she can wear it more often , again becuz it will match everything.
I do love that drop setting, but perhaps she would get more wear of the necklace with something alittle more traditional....or diamonds.....

again, just my personal taste...please do not take offense or think I am trying to talk you out of something....

Pricescope, dear.... those rose cuts! Dangerous idea

Turning to the rounds replacing marquises: I have no idea what a row of tiny round diamonds would look with a colored drop attached. Perhaps OK, but hei, this thread started with rather grand ideas so something common starts to look flat in the context (although most likely it is not the case).

And speaking of rose cuts - here''s what their close cousin would look like: a chain with diamond briolettes:

I saw this one on this site and it kind of looked cool
