Halloo Folks

I am stumped on this one!

I have really enjoyed my spess (especially the glow) and would like to buy a fine tsav as I understand that a high quality one would also glow as well. The trouble is I have no idea how much one should cost!

Ideally I would like one as large as possible! Nothing smaller than 3 carats since it seems to suffer from the same dense fate as corundum. Vivid green! Nothing too dark!

I'm not too fussy about the shape but definitely no windows!

Would prefer a vendor who can set the stone as well cuz I enjoy the one stop shop thing but in a pinch, for a lovely stone, I can set it in Australia.

Hit me with your best suggestions! Thank you!!!

I would say not a chance for a 3ct cut stone nowadays.

If it exists, it would cost you a small fortune.

Jeff W had some Tsavorite roughs a while ago and I got one, finished stone is 2.53 ct. and 7.57 x 7.57 mm, video from him:

I would advise contacting him to see if he still has some available.

I love tsavorites! I only own one piece so exited for others to chime in. From my limited research (again, take with a grain of salt) - it seems tsavorites over 2 carats are more rare, and therefore much, much pricier than the 1-2 carat stones more readily found. They also tend to be very clean in terms of clarity (and of course the color is out of this world!)

You might enjoy this video, I certainly did in getting my piece!

This 4 carat stone is available from gemfix:

Omg thank you so much for posting that video!!! That was informative as well as a lot of fun!!!

I'm a huge fan of spess so got quite a thrill when they pulled out the giant spess as well as seeing those giant tsavs!!!

Why is it so expensive though *wails*

@mellowyellowgirl I suppose there's two ways of looking at it. Yes, it's unfortunate that larger stones carry a huge premium, but the positives is that the smaller, 1-2 carats are really affordable (IMO) for lovely stones. Perhaps that means switching gears from a huge honker of a center stone, and instead doing a 3, or 5 stone suite? Or a halo? I think a 3CTW three stone ring would be lovely. It'd be a nice wall of color too :)

That is gorgeous DK!!! I love that it's not dark. Some of them look pretty dark to me, like chrome tourmaline. Yours is a gorgeous shade!!!!!!!

Is that what you would call the trade ideal shade? It's so vivid!!!

Thanks, and I have no idea if it is a trade ideal shade or not.

I just asked Jeff W for a stone that is not too dark, and that's what the finished stone looks like.

It's cracking me up that you have all these random stones!!!

Makes me wonder what else will crop up if someone asks for help with something else :lol-2:

There had been a few stones from Jeff W since 2020 when I could tap into my pension funds.

Only just the one now, the whopper blue-green Tourmaline.

Premier Gemstones (Alex Weber) on IG have some nice tsavs. They are mostly smaller, although he currently has one thats 5+ct and 5 digit price lol. You could maybe ask if he has any rough that can be cut into 3ct+?

Here’s one that is almost 3ct.

Oh that's pretty! I like that shade!

Thank you for this. Was great for looking at prices and learning!!!

Seems like I need a mental readjust and also find points to compensate on!

Looks like everyone has you covered, mellow! The only thing I would add is this... there is a fine line sometimes between the stone being medium in tone and veering into mint territory (which I love and own too, but know you're not looing for). Most tsavs with vivid saturation have a medium-dark tone. That is the trade ideal, which I discovered a while back I dislike. So to find one with a medium tone and vivid saturation takes some effort. But they're out there. Good luck!! I can't wait to see what you come up with, my friend.

Autumn can you do me a massive favor and post a few pics of what trade ideal is supposed to look like?

I've been browsing and come up with the conclusion that it's darker but I'm not sure how dark. There's dark and then there's inky.

It would help heaps!!!!! Thanks in advance!!!!!

I think the GemFix one posted earlier is a good depiction of my personal favorite tsav color (even if the stills appear to be a bit enhanced).

Here's a group shot:

I believe the darker tone of the middle one, ring finger, is closest to trade ideal (if you could have it without the extinction). I prefer the lighter neon-y look of the left two. The cab is definitely too dark, at least in this lighting.

Don't overlook mint garnets. It's a different concept from tsavorite, mint not green. But they are magically bright and sparkly. They dance. And they are not so ridiculously pricey. I don't have one.
My only tsavorite is a tiny, sparkly Merelani mint garnet.

The hand shot video looks realistic

The photo seems a tad hokey?

Agreed... stone looks great in vid... but oversaturated to the point of silliness in stills.

So lush!! =) And I agree with you on all counts as well.

If Thailand-based Instagram vendors are an option, and if you haven't already, browse @b.g.stones (aka bright green stones); he often has beautiful glow >2ct Tsavs ... I've bought from him a few times and found him reliable, good communication, secure packing and timely FedEx shipping

Oh wow!!!!! Seems like he specialises in Tsavs!!!! His stones are gorgeous!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!

Omg that BG person has much nice stuff I'm getting distracted.

Those emerald cabs are sensational!!!!!

Below is a photo of 3 Tsavorite Garnets as seen in Jeff's Sold gemstone gallery.

Not sure if they are trade ideals or not, however, I don't like the one on the right as it is too dark.

Of the remaining 2, I prefer the hexagonal one in terms of colour being more vivid. However, I shan't say no to the one in the middle!

Each to their own and all that when it comes to colour!

Lisa Elser has some great tsavs ranging from $1k-$2.6k/ct. She had one over 2 ct in her Oct catalog; not sure if she still has it but you could ask.

Tsavorite is actually one of those colored stones that are very rare to find above 2 carats. As soon as I saw the title of the thread and the fact that it's by you, I immediately thought, is she going to be able to find one large enough?

1 carat tsavs are fairly common, 2 carats you'll have to pay 3-5k USD, and 3 carats and above will be definitely five figures. The largest tsav I've seen for sale is 4 carats, and I don't know if that's quite big enough for you.

Do prefer tsav w/ yellow or blue modifier? Personally i prefer the latter one but it is much rarer. Not sure which one r the the trade ideal
