Please help me find a vivid Tsav!

What a wonderful assignment, dear @mellowyellowgirl! You are no longer on ban island, I see. Jusr in time for Christmas!!!
Have you looked at Africa Gems? I haven’t bought fr them, but I think @Autumn in New England may have. They have quite a few Tsavorites, and they are having a holiday sale.

@mellowyellowgirl here is one from Alex (premiergemstones)!

I don't know but that's beautiful!!!

Sharing this for comparison. The top piece has a nice neon glow to the green but is not as vivid as the bottom piece. Here in SG, only the bottom hue typically gets the "vivid green" in laboratory reports. The colours actually appear quite different in person but the difference is difficult to capture in photos.

That's super interesting! I feel that the top one is more "vivid" by my definition! Both are beautiful though!

Curious if you could expand more on what constitutes vivid in trade?

Thanks so much for sharing!!!

The best Tsavorite color in my opinion is found in Tanzania, a neon vivid green in a medium light tone, sometimes with a hint of blue, but either way gorgeous. I've seen these Tsavorites put green Brazilian Paraiba to shame. They just glow with a radioactivity that is hard to capture with the camera.

Kenya of course produce some fine Tsavorite too, but generally darker in tone and not as neon.

No problems at all. The top piece has got a lighter tone. Both pieces have good saturation for green but typically the laboratory that I go to only indicates "vivid green" for tsavorites that have a darker tone together with high saturation of colour. I think it is a personal preference with regard to the colour but sometimes there is an inclination to prefer what laboratory reports indicate.

I think that lab defines that vivid green cannot have a yellowish component. As green green as it gets if you know what I mean

“Green gems may have blue or yellow secondary hues present. In general, a pure green hue is the most desirable (and more expensive). For secondary hues, most people prefer a hint of blue to a yellowish green stone. Yellow-green stones can still be quite attractive but won’t reach top dollar.”

My local lab only gives vivid green to the green green stones. I’ve a tsav that has a nice color veering to neon (imo) but is certified green. Basically almost everything is certed green.

The color is quite off in this pic but then again I’ve never managed to take a good pic of this tsav ring that is certed as vivid-green by my local lab.

I did take some pics before it was set, so yeah vivid green is green green. The gemologist told me that the stone is a very nice color when I went to pick up the cert.

The last one cause it kept giving off neon flashes when I was about to put the ring holder on the ground.

That stone looked gorgeous! Did anyone here happen to purchase it so we can see more pictures?

Are you open to pre-loved? Saw a decent one on Rakuten the other day.

I'm running hot and cold on this type of stone now.

Some of them look really vivid, some as flat as a random green stone.

I love yours!!!! You got in before it was expensive!!!

Garnets can be moody. My tsav sometimes looks flat too, depending on the light. Same for other garnets that I have…

What about emerald? If you don’t insist on Columbian ones, prices can still be manageable. Emeralds are more consistently glowy.

I see some amazing tsavs and then some I'm like "What is even the point of this?"

Tsav vs Spess which would you say holds up better? I know completely different colors but both garnets so I'm curious!

I LOVE the look of emeralds but I've heard so many horror stories about what happens when they dry out.

How have yours fared? Haha I should start a thread on how minor oil emeralds hold up!

I kinda think you are more of a spess person. Brighter color. I find tsav generally moodier. It’s stone specific though. Like I have that one itty bitty spess that is neon in all lights and other spess not so much.

My emerald seems to be ok so far? But I don’t wash in ultrasonic and it got very little wear during the pandemic. Plus I’m in a super humid climate with little temperature fluctuation and it hasn’t been that many years since I got my emerald ring.

I think it depends on the quality of the stone. Whatever you get, you have to get a good one.

The tsavorite second from the left is one of my absolute favourite stones. It's always bright and sparkly, and vivid pure green. Of all my stones, it's certainly the one that gets the most comments.

I have two orange orange spessartites and a reddish one. I like them all, but I have to admit that the orange ones are not quite as saturated as they could be - they have a bit of a brown undertone. The reddish one has a good warm look, but is not as eye-catching as the orange ones:

I have an oiled emerald. It hasn't changed appearance in the three years that I've had it. It has the magic shimmery glow that no other stone can match. You could say it has a quiet beauty when compared with the flashy tsavorite. But here's the catch: I've read the horror stories about brittleness. So I'm a bit afraid to wear it, even though it's set in a full bezel. And a ring that you're afraid wear isn't much use.

So yes, I'd be happy to recommend a tsavorite or an orange spessartite. The important thing is to get a really good one. I suspect that a pure orange spessartite will be just as hard to find as a well-cut vivid green tsavorite.

Wow, that seems like a great deal - @mellowyellowgirl what do you think?

It is an AMAZING deal!!! But now I'm rethinking my tsav feelings.

I remember probably 6 years ago I went to a shop in Singapore. The vendor had nice tsavs (from what I can remember) but I didn't buy them. Walked away with a pink Sapphire. That's making me question how much I would really even like one.

You already have huge green jadeite stuff. Between an itty stone and a big ass ring, I suspect you will mostly go for the latter?

Even my kickass itty spess doesn’t get that much wear as it’s not an obvious choice against my other bigger/more prominent rings.

Something to consider. Just sharing as I now expect any itty stones that I get to have some quality that helps it to stand up against bigger rivals. Like color (being neon helps, or red) or rarity.

Is this the tone you may like?

Below the size you are looking for but I think this one doesn’t look too bad.
