The wise DS has got me exploring other options for setting my new sapphire and I'm at a loss to find a cool gallery. I could of course go the traditional straight bar route, but I would love to find some interesting filigree design. Please forgive me for starting a new thread but I feel like this this is such a specific request I don't it just get lost at the end of the other one. I'll post a few galleries that I've snapped pics of lately to give examples of what I'm looking for (but none of them are "the one").

Here is my David Klass gallery... it’s quite interesting and still allows the ring to sit pretty low on the finger.

The only thing is... with my 8 carat aqua.... that gallery is ok to clean but hard to dry and so I get water spots on it. It drives me bonkers. I’m not sure this would translate to a sapphire.

So make sure it has easy access for both a brush and a blow dryer!

Caolsen, your right gallery is beautiful -- thank you! David does such amazing work. He set two of my most recent rings and I just love his work.

Whitewave, ah... I see what you mean. I use a fresh maek-up brush to "dry" the stone and gallery after I clean other rings so I guess I'm going to have to keep doing that process depending on what I end up with here.

Is this for a three stone?

Yes. Center stone 11.1 x 11.2 with Cadillac sides.

ETA, the Caddies actually being used are slightly bigger (both longer and fatter) than this one.

I don’t personally like an extremely detailed basket with a simple modern three stone. It’s an odd juxtaposition. I more like simple intentional details.252C4494-A1A8-469A-857A-3674CE5D674F.jpeg

I agree, and also think this second one is a prime example of something seemingly simple, but difficult to execute really nicely.

@Dee*Jay
Gorgeous sapphire! And then with the sidestones  !!

@Dee*Jay what a beautiful combo! Your ring is going to be spectacular! FWIW, I think a modern low profile basket would honor this and not take away from the beauty. With that said, I also love the look of a fleur di lis in a basket.

@caolsen do you have a thread for your DK ring?

These are obviously on a much bigger scale, but both are by DK and are variations on the fleur-de-lis. DK could easily reduce the designs down to the appropriate size for a ring.

Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas!

Niel and Rfisher, I actually agree with both of you. My fear is that there's going to be So Much Room in the gallery that it will look odd if I don't put *something* there... Do you think it would be strange to leave it mostly open?

Marymm, I love me some gorgeous engraving! Again, though, I'm worried about how much it would have to be to take up all the space. I can't remember if I mentioned this already, but the stone is almost 8 mm deep, so there's a lot to contend with here. Mark Broumand is a master though, and I can't believe it didn't occur to me to look at this stuff for ideas -- off to do that next!

Facetgirl, I think a fleur di lis is a gorgeous option. I've got several variations on that saved. One thing that really appeals to me is when the design is executed without the rail across the top so the FDL just points up at the top of the stone. That being said, I'm not sure if it's possible to do a setting without a top rail in this instance or if that is a structurally bad idea for this stone.

Michelle!!! I was actually thinking of texting you the other day and asking you to go peek in your jewelry box for ideas because I knew you would have beautiful options. That third one, like a diamond "fan," is especially swoon-worthy!

Farleysmom, that is gorgeous and the engraving on the band is amazing too!

Cspan, you hit the nail on the head with the easy cleaning aspect -- another thing I really want to achieve here.

prs, I've been blowing up the internet looking at DK's instagram! The pattern on that second pendant in particular is just spectacular.

Donnabrsd, how funny that I was the first person to comment on this ring! I just went back through all of your pictures on that thread -- so gorgeous!

I do not think it would look off - if you go to any high end dealer and look at modern three stones they just have perfectly executed bars - with heft and some some curbs in the bars. Perfectly executed simplicity. Go to 1stsibs and look at rings and narrow the rings down to three stones- sort high to low. You’ll notice they don’t have detailed sides for the most part. However - you could add some simple details if your looking to make this look vintage. I don’t really think this would be improved by being in a vintage style- but it could be done and I’m sure it would be lovely.

Love this thread
Gallery is really important to me (i discovered after buying some butt ugly ones)

Niel, there is definitely something to be said for the simple elegance of a class setting! I'm actually leaning heavily in that direction right now if I don't find something soon that really knocks my socks off.

Daisys, it's funny, many years ago when I starting going down the jewelry path I didn't know what I didn't know (yet) and never gave a gallery a second thought. Now... Katie bar the door -- I've got to (over)think about every detail, gallery included!

Peppermint, your ring is AMAZING! David's engraving to absolutely to die for, and I love how your beautiful stone is set in that ring!

@Dee*Jay I'm so excited this sapphire went to a PS'r ! I pondered it for sometime and kept thinking how lovely she is and am so looking forward to seeing your finished ring!!! May I ask how wide your Cadi cuts are that you choose for it?

Stepcutnut, isn't it funny how we all stalk the same stones and that we get excited when something we don't buy ultimately goes to another PSer?! It's like all the gems in the world are communal property and they belong to the collective "US"!

As for the caddies... I don't remember. Off the top of my head I'm thinking 3 mm-ish (?). I'll check my paperwork when I get the finished ring and let you know.

OK kids, I'm down to one FINAL decision on the ring! Not sure why I split this in two, but I put the CADs up in the colored stone forum instead of here (50 and senile... what can I say?!). I got some good advice on that CS thread, which helped me refine the vision a lot, and some opinions that I appreciate. I also got a few "outside" opinions which, interestingly enough, are evenly split. So one last vote if you all don't mind on the two options.

1. Open pattern under the entire side stones.

2. Open under the side caddies except for the "outside" angled parts of the bezels by the band.

3. Area under the caddies is totally closed, but I'm afraid it would complicate things in terms of cleaning.

Let me also say that this detail is a TINY piece of something that's already TINY, so it may not matter In The Least. And that's valid too!

Alright, options to follow!

Options 1 - open pattern

Option 2 - open except for the angled pieces on the outside of the bezels.

Please forgive my cut 'n' paste project, ha ha!

Option 3 - this has actually grown on me quite a bit, but I am worried about the logistics of cleaning.
