I am floundering here on my own.
can someone help me find a nice spinel.
Under 1k.
mediumish colored.
I'm not particular on the color. Just needs to go with gold or rose gold.
I'm about to make a non ps approved temp solution to my problem but I'd rather have a nice spinel over 7mm in length
Anyone seen a nice spinel lately???

Can you narrow it down please?

What are your colour preferences?
Are you fussy about cut?
What is your budget?
Where have you already searched?

All of that would be helpful to know.

I'm not fussy about color all I want like I said medium ish. Well saturate and will match gold/rg. So probably not blue. Like my previous post my dream is red.

I've only contacted some precision cutters to see if they have rough I want
Like I said budget under 1k

I just posted this from Odyssey gem for someone looking for a pad.... odyssey_orang_spinel_130125.jpg it's 3.79 and asking $1200. Here's the link. The video isn't as red, a tad more orange.

Here's a very pretty ring on loupe troop 130125_spinel_ring_ltroop__549.jpg

It looks like a bright red, is already a ring and asking is $549.

Here's the link. http://loupetroop.com/listings/rings-colored-stone-center/red-spinel-ring

Good luck. I'll enjoy following your treasure hunt.

duh. just realized you prefer an oval!!!

Thanks those are beautiful. I especially like the one at loupe troop but its a bit small. I want to make a 5 stone and I need a center stone a little bit bigger.

Anything from The Gem Trader? Sometimes he carries well priced excellently oval spinels. I think it's www.thegemtrader.com

Looks very dark and could brown out indoors. Just a gut feel based on past experience with red spinels that look like that. It is lighter on the hand, but still dark overall.

Certainly different but not unattractive. I would ask if there's any cut issues though. I suspect a smallish window but it might close up when set.

is there any on there that seem promising?

yeah i thought i saw a window as well. And yeah its different.

About that purple sapphire - that is definitely a color that I really enjoy and find it uncommon in sapphires. In those that I have seen in person, they often have almost a filmy or soapy quality to them. I can't tell from the photos if this one has that slight film (if it does, it just doesn't read as sparkly), so I might ask Brad if you were seriously interested in it.

Depending upon the color, it is highly likely that you can get a great oval spinel to fit your dimensions for well under $1K. I'm attaching pics of two that are currently for sale (believe it or not, these are not the same stone); but I don't think you'd have much of a problem finding one that you love.

Nielsreel, love the one you posted....

Here's one that appears darker than your post but pretty. It's the only view and no video. I don't know if vendor provides hand shots on request. 4.5 ct, $1017. It's from multicolored and here' s the link: http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?-382188448

Well shoot I love that last orangy one! But I'd have to have it recut right? I mean that looks like it has a bowtie ( or whatevee its called for CS)

The more I look at that pad insperation ring the more I think I'd like a lighter color. I just assumed the llighter it goes the worse itll look with gold.

Ask Chrono but I think most ovals tend to have bowties although you would want minium bow tie. I've also heard (I think from Chrono again, my that woman is busy and knowledgeable!) this site tends to have pics that are less saturated in real life. Soooo, I guess this would turn out to be a lighter stone.

Anyway, it's a jumping off point.

E-mail Brad at the gem trader. He has stones that are cut but un-listed. Thats how I got my oval spinel from him :D

Thanks for the advice I shot an email over to him.
I'm thinking maybe a nice lilac lsvender type color maybe? I feel like if it was well saturated I'd like that lighter color with a rose gold

I have had great luck with multicolour. the pics on their "lab reports" are closer to reality than the ones you see online. here is the one from that "lab report"

That stone has a 7.8 mm width which doesnt leave a lot of room for four more stones unless you have large hands

Size 7. I think I'd be fine

The MC one looks like it would have a grey cast and be unpleasing. I do think the orangey colored spinel from MC is a great choice. I can't imagine it would need a recut as it appears to be a nice native.

This is the photo of that orangy spinel from the MC "lab report",

I actually really like that magenta colored stone you posted from the Gem Trader  The orangey one from MC is really pretty too.

W  W I love this!

So no one is concerned about the bkack in the middle?

What are the exact dimensions of the stone you seek? For some reason, I thought you were looking for ones of 7mm in length?

Yes, the orangish MC has a slight bowtie and window but it might be less obvious in person. I didn't see a depth listed but if deep enough and if fussy about the cut, it only needs the pavilion slightly tweaked. The cut on the lavender MC oval is great but the gray cast is quite strong. I find the orangey spinel more attractive.
