Oh my goodness Missy, no of course I don't mind I totally understand. There are no horrible pictures in that article but believe me, I understand not even wanting to read the details about it (I haven't either.) I just know there is one chimpanzee, Ponso, who remains. If you're up to it and want to see a video of him being fed, you can see it here https://www.facebook.com/1563621057233191/videos/vb.1563621057233191/1592814947647135/?type=2&theater

(and if you don't want to see that I understand that too.)

And I love that quote, by the way, it's one of my favorite ones of all time (although I've read it's not quite accurate, and it's not exactly what Gandhi said. Doesn't matter, I still love it, SOMEBODY should say it because it's truth).

Candygrl, you can help, there is still so much we can all do...maybe you have already, but if you haven't, you can sign the petition, they still more signatures: https://www.facebook.com/abandonedchimps/posts/1662992040580062

And if you can, consider donating (even if it's $5, it helps! They're using the $ to feed them right now...) http://www.gofundme.com/abandonedchimps

I will check the link out thank you CJ and also thank you for posting the links again for Candygrl and for anyone else who might be reading.

Please for all the lurkers and PSers if you could just take a moment to share these links on your FB page and sign the petition for the dear chimpanzees it would mean so much to them and their survival. Thank you so much!

Just had to share this recently captured photo of Nana embracing her two year old daughter! Like humans, chimpanzees physically express their emotions in many ways including hugging, kissing, and even tickling. Seeing such a tender moment between this mama and her baby is truly heartwarming and reminds us why we are working so hard to ensure these chimpanzees are receiving the care they need and deserve. Keep sharing their story – gofundme.com/abandonedchimps

For anyone who may still be interested in helping, these are NEW actions you can take today:

TAKE ACTION NOW FOR ABANDONED LAB CHIMPS:

Dr. Laurie Glimcher, a N.Y. Blood Center board member, has not responded to primatologist Robert Ingersoll's letter asking her to take a stand for the abandoned chimps. Please be respectful and take the following actions today:

1) MAKE 2 PHONE CALLS:
-Dr. Glimcher is the Dean of Cornell Medical College. Call her office and ask her to take a stand for the abandoned chimps: (212) 746-5900
-Indiana University is giving Dr. Glimcher an award on September 24th. Please call and ask them to reconsider the award: (317) 278-3089. (Award info: http://tinyurl.com/owe6q56)

2) SEND TWEET: Send Dr. Glimcher a tweet regarding NYBC's decision to abandon their lab chimps. Twitter page link: http://tinyurl.com/qdgacw4.. In the tweet, include @nytimes and/or @WeillCornell.

3) POST TO FACEBOOK: Please post to the "reviews" section of Cornell Medical College Facebook and speak out for the abandoned lab chimps: http://tinyurl.com/nvzx6q9

Thanks for posting this! I hadn't seen this til you bumped it. And thank you Missy for originally bringing this to everyone's attention! I am going to sign and donate. It's shocking to me that anyone--corporation or not--could inflict such cruelty on these beautiful animals. I mean, I'm sure there are plenty of rescue organizations that would have taken these primates (even zoos would be better than starvation!). I am baffled how they came to the conclusion that stranding the chimps and leaving them to starve was the best option?!?

Thank you! :appl:

The answer is because they don't care...

They don't care enough to look into getting help for taking care of them. They figured, I'm sure, that at some point SOMEONE would step in and feed them. And if they don't...oh well.

Just in case you missed it, when they WERE taking care of them they were feeding them only once every other day.

They don't care, and never have. They were probably feeding them just enough to keep them alive to be able to continue to experiment and research. Not because they cared.

Yes, obviously there is no room for compassion in the model of corporate greed. I still don't get how people could be so cruel, but I'm a compassionate person so I guess I could never understand. I'm glad that there are people who care. Thanks again for bringing this horrible situation to our attention!

Re: Please help the chimpanzees...so terrible what is happen

Thank you tuffyluvr and thank you again CJ!!!!!

Please everyone please do what you can for these beautiful chimpanzees. Don't let them die. It is hard to imagine people as heartless as the ones involved here not caring about the suffering of these animals by their hand. Heartbreaking and I know we can and are making a difference. Thank you all and (((hugs))) all around for caring.

Re: Please help the chimpanzees...so terrible what is happen

Quick update for those who may be interested...

Some great news today...

Citigroup donated $50,000.

Yay!

:appl:

Re: Please help the chimpanzees...so terrible what is happen

Thanks for the update CJ! I follow them on FB and sometimes I cannot bear to look at the updates for fear of what I might read. Thanks for sharing this good update. :appl:

Re: Please help the chimpanzees...so terrible what is happen

Thank you, CJ, this is such good news :appl: I'll have to figure out how to throw Citi my business, pittance that it is.

I'll also contact them to thank them somehow, phone call, email, fb etc.

Re: Please help the chimpanzees...so terrible what is happen

Glad to share it with you guys!

It's a drop in the bucket as far as money, but what's significant is the exposure this will get - hopefully making it more likely other big companies will also help (although ultimately STILL I want to see the NY Blood Center foot every damn dime).

I was really glad to see Citigroup do this - I've been with them for a long time and really, this added a layer of loyalty for me, even though the cynic in me realizes that the decision to contribute may have had some business reasons too. But it doesn't matter. The point is they did donate. And they didn't have to donate 50K. So I also like to visualize that there was a group of really nice human beings sitting around a table who were first and foremost guided by their compassion.

This is also really good, for the same reason: http://extratv.com/2016/03/28/kate-and-rooney-mara-write-open-letter-to-help-save-abandoned-chimpanzees-in-liberia/

Re: Please help the chimpanzees...so terrible what is happen

Just saw this and signed the petition... being a wuss about calling (yay anxiety...) but hoping that other groups also step in to help. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
