This is the band I am thinking of possibly getting (if I dont reset my current e-ring). I would wear this band on my left hand alone, and just wear my e-ring on my right hand. Hate to spend $$ on this when I can potentially put it towards my future upgrade, but I know I will always want one of these no matter what. Tee, hee.

Leaves lots of options for stacking too!!!!

I would love to do this eventually (Halle Berry's rings). But then I think, would I miss wearing a traditional w-set???

I absolutely love an emerald or Asscher cut with tapered baguettes. It just screams "classy" and has that cool art deco flair! My vote is to go with the cathedral-type tapered baguette setting, and cross the upgrade bridge when you come to it. It would definitely be worth asking if the head could be exchanged for one that could hold a larger diamond at a later time, though.

This one from WF is really nice and has the option of a matching band...

Thanks, Bargaincrazy so much for your advice!! So, you WOULD reset into a slightly higher basket setting with a plain shank? Not a pave one? Like just take my basket off and reset it a bit higher? I am not looking for a TOTALLY flush fit, I dont mind a little gap at all. I think its either coming down to that, or just keep my ring as is, wear it on the right hand, and get a vertical baguette eternity for the left hand to wear alone...

I was actually thinking of angling/curving the prongs inward so that the lower basket (part that touches the finger) is smaller allowing a WB to sit closer (less gap), but not totally flush. I''ve just never seen a setting where a basket like yours is raised up so that a WB can slide underneath. I realize though that it wouldn''t look quite the same, but you''d still get to keep your beautiful pave basket and claw prongs. I think it could look something like the first LM basket (pic attached), w/o cathedral and pave shank. Wearing your ER on the right hand and then getting an eternity band for the left would also be a good option. I almost think wearing two bands together is overrated. Center stones just pop more when there''s no WB next to the ER. Call me unsentimental yet again

Oh...and thank you so much for asking for my opinion. I''m totally flattered!

Thanks so much jstarfireb!! I really do like that setting too...matching band is really pretty!!!!:lickout:]

Thanks again Bargaincrazy! I am having a hard time imagining what you are talking about, but I am going to just talk to Mark and see what he says. It just going to boil down to doing something like the Leon, or just wearing the 2 rings separately. I just wish I would have thought about the future (and w-band wearing) when I had my ring made. I told Mark I wanted my diamond set as low as possible since I HATE high settings, so he just made it the way I asked him too....Oh well, I will keep you guys updated!!

dani, I can''t wait to here what mark says and what you decide. I know it''s tough but I know whatever you choose will be fabulous.

My head is spinning from all of the options!! I was thinking today though that as much as I love that baguette eternity band, I really would miss wearing a w-set if I wore my e-ring separately on my right hand. We''ll see....
I will keep you all updated on what happens after I speak to Mark. Thanks again to all who responded!

I''m totally biased cause I have the Ritani setting and I love it! I think it would look great with an EC. It''s slightly sparkly but not too blingy to overpower the EC...and I love the photoshop of the band with your stone.

It has the advantage of being cheaper than a Leon or whatever, and it would be a very simple reset (i.e. no waiting or stressing over custom). If you think you may go custom some day when you get a bigger stone, I would save your $ and energy for that. I would keep your current setting and reset it with a colored stone or something.

Hi Basil!

I was hoping you would chime in b/c I know you have the Ritani setting. I too do love it, but I adore my basket on my current setting more than I like the Ritani''s basket (although I have never seen an EC set in the endless love, so I am sure if I put my stone in that setting, the basket will look more similar to my e-ring''s, you know? I also love my own rings'' profile a bit more...I realize I cant have it all though, so I really just need to decide....

I don''t know if this will help...but what are you liking more about the Leon than the Ritani?

The Leon (and your current setting) look more angular to me...the prongs are straighter rather than curving outwards like the Ritani. I think the reason the Ritani is shaped like this is to allow the band to sit more flush, but still be relatively low set. The other thing is that your basket has straight sides, whereas mine and the others with round stones, the basket is curved. Obviously, I think Ritani would make the basket with straight sides, like this princess one. And the third thing I notice is the cathedral-ness of it...the triangle of space between the cathedral part and the actual band part whereas the Ritani is just solid metal. Oh yeah, and the pave on the prongs.

I think if you could isolate exactly what you like better about the basket, then maybe that would help you decide where and if you wanted to compromise?

It just seems if you know you want to upgrade, even in 5-10 years or whatever, you are really already compromising on what you really want by still having this stone and this setting. It''s just a question of how much.

The reasons I chose this setting were: I needed something premade cause fiance was stressed out about the whole process enough as it was; I knew I wanted something that would sit pretty flush with a band; and I knew I wanted a thin pave band and a basket head. Plus, we really just wanted to get engaged, and the 4 weeks it took for the Ritani was long enough! I love Leon''s work, but it was really just too much of a project for us at the time (nevermind the $$$), and the infrequent reports of reliability issues and personality conflicts sort of made me nervous too. YMMV - I guess it depends on really how long you think you''ll keep it, and how much time and effort you want to spend on this project versus just getting it on your finger!

Hi Basil-

Thanks so much for your response! To answer your question, I am thinking that the basket/profile of the Ritani just wont be as nice as my current e-ring''s. I do realize that I am probably thinking too much (most people dont even notice the pave on the basket anyway). But I am also thinking I can keep my original basket and just have Mark remake the shank of my ring so that the basket is lifted higher so that a band will sit more flush. But then it comes down to do I keep the shank plain platinum like it is now, or do a thin pave one? Basically, its down to two choices: The Ritani or Mark''s modification. I have to talk to him to see what he can do, and see how it prices out either way. I am tempted to call Leon just for a quote for that setting I posted earlier, but I think he is just going to be too pricey for me....AHHHHH!! Can you tell I am driving myself nuts??? Really, thanks for your help though and for taking the time to respond/talk about it. I really appreciate it!!

dani, i think you should absolutely explore all your options and pricing may help close some doors for you. Be sure to ask Leon about the wedding band and making the ring to have one flush because much of his fabulous work doesn''t allow for it.

I do think that if you went with the Ritani it will look fine and the pave basket will be beautiful. although, I''d guess it will be smaller than the one that''s on your ring now.

Thanks mrssalvo! Maybe I am thinking too much about the basket thing!

Gosh, I do love the Ritani setting so much. that last pic Basil posted is to die for. Do you think I should even call Leon to get a quote on the setting I posted earlier (the one w/ the basket similar to mine)? As much as I would like to, I think he will cost more than I want to spend right now, and I am sure Mark T. can make something very similar for me. I definitely want to work w/ Leon in the future though- just love his work!

Hiya, Dani:

I love your diamond - it''s devine!

I promise to share photos of my new setting with you. And I''ll let you know if it lines up nicely with a band. I know it''s tough to find just the right setting to sit with an EC. You might consider doing what I did with my set (that I wish I could keep):

My jeweler literally removed two prongs from one side of the emerald, tucked the eternity band under the EC and then added the prongs on the other side of the wedding band. Does that make sense? It looked so neat and clean and it was the perfect solution, since I really wanted my two rings to flush together. I can try to dig out a photo for you, if that would help.

Having just gone through something similar, I think Leon will come in at quite a bit more than Mark or the Ritani for pave work. But it might be worth a call if you really want.

I would talk to Mark about what you want and ask him to price out his solution vs. the Ritani. He was great with me when I was going through this, and he was actually the one to suggest that I go with the Ritani once we realized that the modifications I wanted to make were sooooo tiny and that the Ritani was about $1,000 less than having one custom made by Mark.

ETA: I get TONS of compliments on my ring, but they are hardly ever about the basket actually. Prongs, pave, delicateness, craftsmanship, but not the basket specifically because most people are looking from the top down anyway, so any basket detail is mostly for you!

Hi Mary!

Thanks so much....I am sure your rings were lovely, but I just really didnt want to solder my rings together- want the option of wearing both of the rings individually, ya know?

Promise you will post pics of your new Ritani- I really think its going to look awesome, and I can''t wait to see it!

Thanks!

Thanks, neatfreak! I totally agree with you! I just need to talk to Mark...

So, I am assuming if you were me, you would re-set into the Ritani, and get the matching w-band, and then just keep the orig setting for a project later on, hmmm??

Yup.

But I''m biased because I love the Ritani. I don''t love the side view from the back or front, but man the other side view (looking sideways over the band to the basket) is gorgeous and the pave work is really top notch. Talk to Mark, he''ll help you out. He did a great job for us.

Neatfreak-

Do your rings sit completely flush? I am thinking that if I re-set into the Ritani, my rings wont be 100% flush b/c of the shape of the EC, but I am fine with A LITTLE bit of space. Just wondering...
2.gif

I don''t have MY wedding band yet, but when I tried it on at the store, they did sit completely flush. According to Ritani they designed the endless love collection with the express purpose of a WB sitting flush no matter what. I don''t know how long your EC is, but my cushion is rectangular, thus the prongs stick out over the band on the side, and a WB still sits flush for me.

Your ste is stunning the way it is, but it also looks great with the pave...beatiful!!!
