Please opine on this stone with input and estimated values.1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg5.jpg6.jpg7.jpg

No clue about value, but I'm not a fan of the color from the pics. Looks kind of grayish to me.

Ps. What is your budget. And do you need unheated? What's your preferred size?

Unheated up to 4k depending on quality

I like the color, but I tend to gravitate to "other than trade ideal" colors in sapphires. Unfortunately because it falls in that category, it's hard to guess cost. @winnietucker bought a larger one that was set in heavy gold recently for around 4k...? I can't remember exactly.

Idk about value, but it seems like the best things going for it is that it's over 4 carats and is unheated. I'm ok with the pillowy cut (although I don't know enough to say whether it faces up smaller than expected bc of the cut).

In terms of the color, I'm another person who doesn't always prefer "trade ideal." But this sapphire is too gray for me, too.

Fairly clean, not overly deep, slightly bulging pavilion.

The crux is the color, which we are really not able to judge in photos -- a few "shades" in either direction would double or triple the price. That's a tiny tweak in the images.

I don't mind the pastel tone. I agree that there is some gray, as there generally is. A slight shift in the gray:blue ratio and it could be pretty mediocre.

I would need a bulletproof return policy if I were to buy it.

The good:
Untreated
Large (4 carats)
Pleasing cushion shape
Eye clean

The not so good:
Cutting (there’s a noticeable window)
color (not top quality, or trade ideal, but it’s a pleasing shade IMO).

I’m not familiar with sapphire pricing these days, but I think a fair price considering it’s size, is $1k/carat, or $4k total for the gem. The fact it’s untreated may make it perhaps $1200/carat? I could be entirely off in my estimate, and someone feel free to correct me.

The color is it’s biggest weakness, and the size is its best attribute. I personally like the color, but that color does not command huge sapphire prices.

It's pretty but you have to love the cut and color. In my experience, having a stone that has a asymmetrical pavilion does not always lead to a good outcome if you have the cut "improved" by a gem cutter. There may be a significant weight loss and potential change of color.

That’s a pretty normal native cut and not a bad window at all which will almost certainly look less obvious when set. The stone is lacking saturation which will make it more affordable. If you’re getting it from a local seller you’d pay under $750 a ct. but as it’s got a GIA report I’m guessing this is further down the food chain, so you could pay double that.

I personally like mid tones rather than the darker stones but I fear that might be a lot more “watery” looking in person without a white backdrop to make the colour show up. However if you set it in a yellow gold enclosed setting (e.g. gypsy or bezel) that colour could really blossom IMO.

At the right price I’d buy this.

Its a lovely sapphire, a great size and unheated but the colour doesn’t do it for me, it’s a tad too grey and insipid. I prefer a more pure blue or vivid blue.
I’m thinking it would be around $1,000 a carat, maybe more depending on the vendor (retail vs closer to wholesale).
my sapphire is similar carat weight but a little larger “face up”, as its not as deep as your one.

Thanks for you all of you input. The price is attractive, however we also would like a more saturated blue color. Keep you posted.

Good luck with your search! I personally love the color, but that’s irrelevant if you don’t.
