I think I'm in the market for a petite, cathedral knife edge ring. I'd love to see some of yours to help Any suggestions on where I might find one fitting that bill too would be much appreciated!
I have the Excel/Superbcert Tiffany Knife Edge. It's a beautiful ring but if I had to do it over, I wouldn't do a knife edge. It doesn't look right with all bands. I wear an eternity band and it looks pretty but slimmer profile bands look funny because the knife edge sticks out further than the band.
But shared prong eternities with larger stones or tall settings are going to stick out farther than almost any ering shank. That isn't a problem related to the knife edge. Memoire and Tiffany shared prong rings are set low enough to go with most erings.
I know this isn't exactly what you're talking about, but just for more visuals of knife-edge rings, here is my set with diamond knife-edge wedding bands:
I will also add that while the knife-edge does make the rings rise a little higher, I like that added dimension, even if it doesn't completely match my Ering. At the same time, I'm completely over the matchy matchy look like I've had in the past, so it's just my personal preference at this point.
Keep posting the knife edge rings, ladies!!! I think that is just the most understated, classic look ever -- and it makes the solitaire the star every time!!
I *like* that shared prong eternities stick out further than the knife edge, I think diamond bands are the only kind of band other than a plain knife edge band that you can wear with a knife edged e-ring. What I *don't* like about a knife edge is that it always sticks out further than a flatter non-diamond band. In my pictures above, there is a 2mm plain band above the knife edge, it looks completely awkward to have a regular band with a knife edge e-ring in my opinion. If the plain 2mm band was worn just under it, without the diamond band it looks horrible. There are some really nice antique bands that just sit too close to the hand to look good with a knife edge
I agree that I like diamond bands better than plain bands, but plain bands are simply going to be made in different heights, too. I have tried on a bunch of Tiffany bands with my ring and every one of them worked with my ring. I only tried on one plain one, and it was the 2mm ring with milgrain edge and it worked great as it is not a flat band. Apparently Tiffany thinks about height of their bands, which is extremely helpful for those who like the two rings to have a similar height off the finger.
