Hi all,

Been going through a lot of the info posted here, and been very helpful.

I've finally got it down between two and been going back and forth on them. I've seen the 1.72 in person and will be seeing the 1.51 side by side with the other in a couple days. The 1.51 has Very Good Symmetry vs Excellent for the 1.72. My jeweler said neither have the bow tie effect.

The main factor is the color and clarity difference. I know that VS1 vs VS2 clarity is pretty much impossible to tell to the naked eye, but D vs F color I'm not so sure. Also not sure how much of a visual difference there would be in a 1.51 vs 1.72 size wise, but most likely negligible unless placed side by side. Also since it's an oval shape, whether the ratios, LWH are ideal or not.

The 1.51 is however $1,500 cheaper than the 1.72. But I am willing to spend the extra if it's worth it.

Below are the GIA reports for both. Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated!

These two diamonds have two different cutting styles. I am glad you will see both side by side as you may prefer the look of one over the other. Beyond that, there is the size, color and clarity concern but those factors could be less relevant depending on what type of look you want for your oval. If neither suit you, keep looking. There are other sources to look at as well.

Thanks. My preference is to go for whichever would have more sparkle and shine as opposed to just focusing on numbers. If the extra money means more shine then I don't mind paying.

They will each have their own sparkle pattern. You will have to determine which look you like best. Has the jeweler provided you with any images of the diamonds?

Not images, just the reports and I went to see the 1.7 in person. I will see the other 1.5 in person in a couple days.

Do you think the Very Good on the 1.5 vs Excellent symmetry on the 1.7 will create a noticeable difference?

Thanks again.

Ditto @MissGotRocks with respect to the cut.

"Very Good" for symmetry is quite common in fancy cut stones (ovals, marquise...anything besides round). I would not
worry about that and would put more emphasis on the light return, faceting pattern, and minimal "mushy" areas.

The 1.72 you've seen is a 4 main (see the pavilion view under Charity Characteristics)....4 large main facets. The 1.5 is an 8 main
split through the center. What you are looking for is distinct facets that flash on/off. You dont want to see too much gray
mushy areas that do not return light.

BTW...the color is a non-issue since they are close and as long as they are both eye-clean that is also not a deciding factor.

Here is where the gray mushy areas tend to show up in an 8 main.

What you want to see as the stone moves/rotates is nice facets returning light in that area...like below

You can use this link to see a virtual size difference between the two stones.

There are good and not-so-good of the different faceting patterns for ovals. You have to decide what you like to
see and which stone is the most sparkly (Ask to see the stone in various lighting situations. Outside if possible.)

Hope that helps!

Wow, very helpful thank you!

Aside from the cut, what about the difference in color/clarity? F VS1 vs D VS2 - I know through a loupe you can see, but is the difference that noticeable by the eye? Where would you put more importance after cut?

Thanks again!

their videos are online
1.51 D

1,72 F

Thanks @freddyboston !

Not really impressed with that 4 main (1.72). The 1.51 is ok.

Are these your only options? Have you looked around on-line?

I agree, I don't love these. But the 1.51 is better
