Hey guys!

I've been a bit distracted by near-colorless stones, but as the result of diamond chasing I ended up with a platinum fishtail setting for a round stone. At first I started looking for a perfectly round stone of the right dimensions, but soon realized it would be hard to find and not cheap. Then, when I took the original stone out of the setting, I decided to play around with the stones I already have to see if anything fit. Lo and behold, a roval dark grey spinel seemed quite at home in the setting. So a friend helped me to get it set and polished the platinum. Now I have quite a cheap-o ebay spinel set in an expensive metal with small diamond sidestones, and I love it :cheeky:

Not sure this ring really deserves its own thread, but it is unusual, I think. The darker spinel and the platinum.

Cheers!

I love it! It looks lovely!

Sure, it deserves its own thread! Looks nice, and the best part is that you love it!

Beautiful!

This is one of those rule-breaker stones: "grey stones, yuck..." and then you see this stone and its surprisingly nice!

I love a good plum grey spinel. It looks sexy in that setting!!

Wonderful use of the setting and I can't believe that stone isn't round. It seems to fit the setting perfectly.

wow!!! I doubt you could have picked better!! It looks absolutely stunning, and has its own character. I love it!

I love it too!!!

Thanks guys! If the sun deigns to come out from behind all these wintery clouds today, I'll try to take a couple more pics. Gotta love it when a gem moves up in the world from the humble gem box to a piece of jewelry ::)

That is such a beautiful and one-of-a-kind ring. I'll bet your friends who see it flash purple swoon with envy. I have a small purple gray spinel (ebay impulse bid) but not as pretty as yours and no empty setting (but I'll go looking anyway).

A surprisingly good fit and best of all, no need to buy a new stone and you get an existing one set.

What a great bonus to finding that setting and have the stone fit like a glove!! The spinel looks like it was made for the setting (or, vice versa, I guess is the better way!) but together --- they look amazing!!! I love that colour - and its sad that its not a sought after colour, because to me, its VERY appealing, especially love how it comes alive in that setting. Good one!

Thanks everyone!

I always liked these dark and greyish spinels. Something mysterious about them. I have another one that is even more steely grey, no plum at all. Very sparkly, but the window is too big (one of my beginner ebay stones). I hope to get another one like it one day, sans the window :rodent: and put it in silver.

It's really pretty and you know no one else will have anything like it. :appl:
