Ok, I made this impulsive purchase because I couldn't resist Gene's Black Friday sale. It is quite large, so I am thinking of setting the stone into a pendant. This project won't happen anytime soon, but I was playing around with my other loose stones and thought my purple spinel from CDGEMSTONE looked quite nice next to it.

So the options are a single stone pendant, a simple two stone pendant with the purple spinel above the heliodore set N-S, or variations upon the two stone pendant. I can picture a string of yellow gold "tassels" below the heliodore, some yellow gold tassels interspersed with melee emeralds, saturated color, or some yellow gold tassels with a blue-green gem.

Please post any suggestions and ideas you have, too! Thanks! :)

im a ring person
id set it east west with square diamonds either side if there is room

its gorgouse and your pendant will be lovelly
all the options sound scrummy

im not sure about purple and yellow
...let me just check my colour wheel :mrgreen2:;)2

i like the idea of blue green

I’d make stackers where they could stack adjacent to one another. That way you could wear them together or separate, depending your mood.

I really like the two oriented vertically. Given the dimensions of the heliodore, I don't think it would work to set it in a ring oriented N-S. Set E-W, I think side stones would make it too wide. Plus, the tilt windows would be like the morganite+aquamarine ring I recently got from Daniel M because the side stones would be significantly tilted to be able to fit even in N-S orientation.

How about making them two separate pendants, and wearing them with 16 inch and 18 inch chains together?

I also forget, my fat fingers have more real estate for such an orientation. I sometimes stack a 13 carat haloed tourmaline with a three carat haloed chrysoberyl. They’re both elongated cushions so the shapes work together.

So YOU'RE the one who bought that lovely heliodor I wanted! Lucky lady.

It will be quite a while before I get to set this, so I can let it go for what it cost me if you still want it

Of course, I'm not saying this because someone went impulsively purchasing more things from CRD's sale

Tempting! I just spent a lot of money on other stones myself, but tempting...remind me of the specs and price?

I'd set it separately! Both are such attention-stealers that can easily serve as the centerpiece of anything, be it a ring or a pendant :)

I really like @strawrose's suggestion of setting the stones in two separate, different length pendants that can be worn together. The color combination looks amazing to me and having them set in separate pendants allows you to play up the combo and still have the flexibility of being able to wear them separately.

At this point, I am now waffling between setting them as pendants or as rings. Will take longer to decide. Am also not against letting the heliodore go to another PSer's loving home.

The price was $295 and the dimensions approx. 13.5mm by 7.5mm. 5.075 ct weight. Stone from Tajikistan. Definitely worth it considering how large the stone is, just requires a custom setting I can't afford this year.

Is it really that bright lemon yellow in the finger picture? Or is it really the mellower golden color in the box picture?

Both! It depends on the lighting, as with all gems. The ones I took earlier were in diffused light and mixed lighting. Here are pictures taken seconds apart in different areas of the house. I won't be sorry if you don't decide to get this from me... I have been "lucky" with my trigger finger this past week, so I'd feel bad if I took this gem from someone who wanted it more.

It's lovely, isn't it? And I've been wanting an emerald-cut heliodor for a long time. But I think I'd better pass. I have two other heliodors on the way to look at (neither one is emerald cut), and one of them might satisfy my heliodor longing.

I have a round one as well from Precision Gem that's a golden yellow. It made for a set with some stones I got from Mastercut Gems. Please do share your stones on PS after you get them. I haven't seen very much in the way of heliodor on the forums. It's like 35% corundum, 25% tourmalines, 15% spinels, 10% garnets, 5% each of emerald and Jade, and 5% everything else. These numbers are very unscientific but it's my perception from the past two years.

I'd love to see your golden yellow round.

I bought a few cheap native-cut heliodors over the years to see how I like them and what kinds of colors they come in. I decided I like heliodor well enough that I want one in a precision cut, but the range of yellow shades is pretty wide, and it's hard to tell from photos what color a given stone will turn out to be. When I get the ones that are coming I'll show photos of all of them.

I'm attracted to heliodor because it's relatively hard and tough, but generally not very expensive. I'm a bargain hunter rather than a perfectionist.

My golden yellow round is posted over on the pinned vendor pictures and owner pictures thread, post #1054.

I think most of the regular PS folks on the CS forums are more bargain hunter than perfectionist. CS just come with more natural inclusions than the colorless stones.

That golden round is gorgeous, Voce! So sunny.
