Hi everyone,

I listed a gem on LT a couple of days ago; this morning I received what I consider to be a very suspicious email from someone "interested" in the gem. (For anyone who cares, it's a big gorgeous 15 mm round/13+ ct rose de France ammy cut by Dana at MC, lol). I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to put this, but I thought I should say something.

I am not familiar with the person who sent this message and to my knowledge it is not a PSer; however if I'm wrong, and this is a legit person, I'll be happy to apologize and delete this message.

I'm going to post pics of the emails (I deleted them), but please be careful of this person; I found many potential red flags in the messages. (Notably: completely ignored my stating PayPal only in listing, while offering to send an extra $100 over asking price via a check from her "Financial Clerk"; asking for my personal information, including my cell phone number; overall suspicious phrasing - read and judge for yourself).

This person's name is Deanna Hanchey. There appeared to be a possibly clickable link in the first message (her email address), which I did not click on. I mention it just in case anyone else gets a message. She first contacted me through LT; I didn't click on her email addy, just hit reply in my email account; when I replied via email, she replied pretty promptly with the second suspicious message.

I apologize if it seems I'm overreacting, but I've sold on LT quite a few times and have never received any type of message like this, so I thought it worth sharing.

See pics to read the messages...

Yeah she definitely appears to be trying this a lot!! I'm so glad that we have this community to root these things out. Thanks for sharing, soxfan.

I got one from her too. I asked for her address and she sent it to me. I suspect it is a stolen identity situation, and the real Deanna Hanchey (who is listed at that address) has nothing to do with it.

When I emailed that I would not accept overpayment under any circumstances and not accept returns she lost interest in me.

I reported her to Google since she was using a gmail address. We should also report her to the Loupetroop site, and to law enforcement.

Thanks Fel, I will follow your advice!

Tell her that you only accept Paypal payments because they offer buyer and seller security against fraud and watch how fast she leaves you alone....

I actually wrote something very close to that. Here is how she replied....

Thanks so much for that, actually, I think PayPal would be the best option too, But I don't have my PayPal account anymore I lost that some years back it was hacked and lost almost $5000 in that and that put me in a lot of debt and I am not willing to go back and take the risk anymore and this also cause the damage of my Credit Card so I don't have that anymore nor my Card also I have deal with Bank certified cashier check before by paying some of my bills and debt through Cashier Check so its the only option I can go with right now since its will be monitored by both Bank, I am very comfortable with that rather than go with any Online Payment, So if you want to proceed, Kindly get back to me so we can proceed to the next step, I really do want to purchase this let me know if that work for you so we can proceed to the next step.

Thanks
Deanna

Its so funny, katharath, because today was the first time I've gone to RT in years and it happened to be the first thread, lol!

"Deanna" has been a busy, busy girl!

I got one from her today. There was something odd about mine too. I did not respond. Thanks for the heads up!

I got the exact same emails as you guys from her today! I actually was going to ask about it, but came online today and saw she's done it to everyone. Ugh.

I got one too.....

I got some, too. Glad to have the warning so I didn't have to exchange a couple of emails with her to realize the scam. Fake certified checks are prolific.

PAYPAL only, people, unless it is someone you know here.

Her "story" is well crafted.

My husband is a dentist. He has a long time patient...over 20 years....a senior, a former marine and retired policeman. His identity was stolen and because of the financial value of the fraud ( they essentially wiped him out) he now has to have bank checks written for all his transactions. No checking account and no credit cards. His social security and pension checks are deposited into a trust account that the bank has control of. Crazy, but true. If we didn't know him so well, we wouldn't believe a word. That said...Deanna....or whomever is using her identity is a scammer, and this thread needs continued attention.

I got one too

I received one here as well. What a hard working girl :angryfire:

If only she put as much effort into honest employment.....

WOW, so ridiculous!! :wall:

"Deanna" has been a busy, busy girl!

I hear you - being a CS girl means I tend to stay out of rather large portions of this site, lol!!

This morning I woke up to 2 emails from DeannaH110 re: two of my LT items... I do hope no one gets sucked in to her/his scheme!

Wow she must be going back through really old LT listings I just got one too..... Time to have some fun :naughty:

Get her.

Wow, Deanna's daughter is going to have a lot of very nice jewelry isn't she?!!

Eeek, got one from her too! It smelled fishy to me so I ignored it, all sorts of shady. So glad I read this before replying! How do you report someone on LT?

I told her that I'm a scammer. I don't really own any of the items I have listed.
I said to her... since you sound like a very nice person I don't wanna steal your money.

I received a similar email.

At the bottom of the main page there's a clickable "Contact us". That's the only way that I know of, but if there's another way that anyone knows, please share it with us :)

She must be getting new LT accounts because she is still at it. I am now trying to defraud her (well not really), I just really like to mess with people like this..... :saint: She is wasting my time, so I am actively engaged in wasting hers

If anyone knows her address please let me know, I'll tell her I'm sending the cops to that location, when I finish sending her emails even more dramatic than her own pestering her to send me money.

I have an address she sent me for a Deanna Hanchey, but I suspect it is a case of identity theft and the real Deanna Hanchey is not involved. In fact, when I offered to send the ring only to that address, she stopped responding to me. If someone can figure out how to contact the real Deanna Hanchey of Randleman, NC, they may want to tip her off that someone is using her name and address to commit mail fraud. I tried to call the real Deanna Hanchey with reverse lookup but the phone number is no longer active.

If someone has the time, report this fraudster to the FBI cyber crime unit.
